Swim
Comments: I found open water quickly. There was no one around me after the first 100 yards or so. Nice. My sighting to the first bouy was fantastic. I was feeling good. Then I rounded the bouy. Hmmm, not sure what happened but I just could not get my sighting down. I was zig zagging all over the place! After I finally rounded the second bouy, I was good to go. No problems sighting the shore and swam my little heart out to get there. I was very disappointed when I looked at my watch and say 19 minutes. Besides sighting, not sure what went wrong. I'm going with the course was long. What would you do differently?: Sight better! Transition 1
Comments: My bloody wetsuit got caught on my timing chip. Bah! I finally realized it and got it of quickly after that. I rolled on my socks and threw on my bike shoes, sun glasses and helmet. Ran the bike out of transition. What would you do differently?: Realize my suit was caught on my chip before I did and get it off faster. 101/240 in T1. I'll take it! Bike
Comments: I jumped on my bike and off I went. I have ridden this course a few times and really enjoy it. It is quiet and quaint. I reminded myself that this was a training day and not to hammer it as much as I wanted to. It is becoming apparent to me that I can climb hills pretty well. This course doesn't have hardly any hills but I would catch people on them and then they would re pass me on the flats. Humph! I enjoyed the cows that came out to cheer us on! They seemed a bit bored though. What would you do differently?: Okay, it's no secret. The bike is where I really need to focus on. I am SLOW. This is the fastest I have ever ridden and I was still way BOP. I need some serious T.I.T.S. Transition 2
Comments: Pretty good T2. I racked my bike, threw off my helmet, swapped my shoes, put on my race belt and grabbed my visor. I ran off putting my visor on while running out of T2. What would you do differently?: Maybe put my race belt on while running but not much really. 44/240 T2 Run
Comments: Good run for me. No, great run for me. I was feeling a bit hot and tired coming out of T2. I didn't drink hardly anything on the bike and I was starting to feel it. Oh well, I just ran at what felt like a nice easy pace. I refused to look at my watch at all on the run. I was sure I was running about a 10:30-11:00 m/m and I didn't want to know my time. I knew it couldn't be faster because I felt so good. I grabbed some water at the first aide station but didn't drink it. I cannot run and drink at the same time and I didn't want to stop. So, I tossed it and went on. This course has little shade and the sun was out in full force. About the turn around spot, there is a bit of shade and it felt so nice! I made the turn and started my trot back in to the finish line. I was just enjoying myself and enjoying the course. I came up on the little hill to the finish and debated about passing the guy in front of me. I could have caught him but I didn't for two reasons. One, he is not in my age group (obviously, it was a dude) and two, this was a training day, not a race day. (turns out it was Vin's dad! Big congrats to him on his first tri!) I finished and was floored when I hit my watch and saw it said 27:21. Wow. What would you do differently?: Not one thing! Post race
Warm down: Not much. I turned in my chip and talked with some fellow BTers and friends. What limited your ability to perform faster: This was a training day. I really would have liked to race this all out but I just wanted to have a good time in preparation for Patriot HIM. Last updated: 2009-02-25 12:00 AM

At 4:00 on Saturday, I decide to get all my stuff together. I'm babysitting my nieces and nephew so I don't have anything better to do! I gather my tri top and go to grab my tri shorts. Ummm, where are they? I searched my house from top to bottom and could not find them. So, at 4:30, I am rushing 6 kids out of the house to race over to the LBS to grab a new pair before the LBS closes (has anyone ever taken 6 kids to the LBS before? Yikes).
We get back from the LBS and I decide to pack my bag. I used my swim bag and dumped out all my excess swim gear (anyone see where this is going?). I put in my swim cap, wetsuit, race belt, towel, bike shoes, running shoes. I throw my bag and bike in the car so I don't have to worry about it in the morning.
I got up at 5:00 and jumped in the shower to wake up a bit. Got dressed, had coffee and a PB&J. Jumped on BT and wished some friends good luck today. Woke up my kiddos and got them ready for Beth to pick up.
Beth shows up and we do the hand off. The kids are off for a fun filled day of lacrosse watching and eating sugar and I am off to race! Sweet.
Got to the race site and set up my transition. I shoot the breeze with Aaron (aarondavidson) and his adorable daughter and Jeff (jsklarz). I head back to my transition spot and meet Vin (vm354) who happened to rack right next to me. About this time, I realize, I forgot to repack my goggles. Seriously? Come on! Fortunately, BTers are the best and both Vin and Aaron offered me their spare pair. Thanks guys, it would have been a long swim if you weren't there!
I jumped in the water to leak checked the borrowed goggles. Good to go. I meet Jason (acumenjay) and we chat for a few. That's about it!
