Pre-race routine:

Banana, Cliff bar, water and Accelerade in the car. Arrived an hour early, got # etc and coffee cuz it was cold. I can drink coffee black now - didn't think cream in the tummy would be a good idea. Walked and walked looking for BTers and to make my tight parts loosen up. Potty, of course.
Event warmup:

Ran a little loop, enough to get out of breath. Lose layers, chat.

Comments:

I was playing w/ my garmin on the way to the race. Did you know you can display sunrise and sunset? While playing I had gps turned off. Forgot to turn it back on, so 1st mile was spent trying to figure out what was wrong, then deciding if I should bother to turn gps on, then bothering to do so. Didn't even notice that it was uphill..... nice.

Really really tried to get into zone 4 but never did. Spent it all in Zone 3 and junk zone. Looking back at LT results, that's tempo and this was supposed to be a tempo run, so guess it's all good.

Too much concrete for my liking, but body parts didn't complain too much. Wind at our backs on the way out, which I should have taken better advantage of, and blowing harder on the way back, of course :)
What would you do differently?:

Pretty happy. Wanted to do 8:20 pace and did 8:08. Wanted to do better than 6th place in AG (last month's finish) and came in 5th.

Next time I'll carry my own water, even tho only 10 miles -- I hate using a paper cup once and throwing it away. And it's easier to sip out of fuelbelt bottles.

And focus better. Forgot at times this was a race. Got sloppy w/ form. Didn't make myself stay with people that were passing me.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked to car for clothes. Drank Endurox. Stretched watching others finish. Walked around chatting and cheering.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training, always. Sore parts. Weight, always, but getting better.

Event comments:

Fun winter running series. Some incredible athletes.

Good points, Sue! The concrete sucked, the wind wast tough... and I should have carried my own water... lesson learned here... but it looks like you tore it up! NICE WORK!

Nice job on the race! I'm sure that if you didn't spend the first mile playing with the gps your pace would have been better yet. I'll agree that running on concrete is awful. I'm still feeling it in my knees from when I was in FL. Anyway, sounds like it waws a fun time out there.
