Pre-race routine:

Drove 2 hrs to race, drank a diet coke, no food.
Event warmup:

Walked around a bit, sat in the truck with the heater on!! Talked to folks around the bike racks.
Run

  • 2 miles
  • 09m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt like crap the first mile. It was so freeking cold!! The wind was blowing like crazy too.

Mike was ahead of me on this run, so I was trying to push harder to keep up with him.
What would you do differently?:

Worn warmer clothes!!

Comments:

This was the first race with my new bike and clipless pedals. I had a really hard time getting my right foot clipped in. I pedaled with my heel for about 250 feet until I could get it clipped.

Comments:

I took off my running pants in T1 thinking I would be warmer on the bike, WRONG!! My legs were red before I hit the 1 mile mark and numb by 2 miles. My feet were numb from the cold. I now know that I get a lot of ventilation with my shoes!!

Course was down Highway 19 (open course) with police at the turns. It was well marked, but lots of old people going to church wondering why there were so many bicycles on the road!! That was scary!

Mike left out of T1 before me, but I caught him and stayed with him most of the way. I passed him at about mile 8 so he had incentive to go faster!!
What would you do differently?:

Again, wear warmer clothes.
Transition 2

Comments:

Had a cramp in my right calf trying to get my running shoes back on. Other than that, it was ok

Run
  • 21m 52s
  • 2 miles
  • 10m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

Wished I had put my running pants back on. My feet and legs were numb from the cold for the entire time. I felt good other than that.

Stayed with Mike. His back was hurting, so we walked some of this run. It was fun to cross the finish line together.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank water, loaded our bikes in the truck, waited for the awards ceremony.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

COLD!

Event comments:

Great race. I have been very pleased with the organization and people at these races. This one was great too. It was nice that it was a small race. Mike and I both got medals because there were only a few of us in the age group. Whatever works!! We came home with BLING BLING!! The kids think we "won", and we did!

GREAT JOB, PT GIRL!!!

9C is freaking freezing to be wearing shorts, and it was windy to boot.  Good for you for sticking it out!

You will have fun tales to tell at work tomorrow!

Nice job Wendi/Mike! It was definitely FREEZING here today too! I didn't work out- but I'm so proud of you guys. You all look like such a cool couple. Glad you put a picture in there. Glad you were able to get clipped into your bike (eventually). I can't wait for my du this weekend. Now, go relax!

mmmm 49 degrees.... Toasty Great race to both of you. Nice to see your made it home with "Bling Bling" as you call it. If you're bike shoes have vents in them, cover them with tape for the winter.

Congratulations to both of you!!  Your race report sounds like the race in Palmetto on Dec 26 that I was in.  35 knot winds......COLD.  It is good to put a face with the name.  Keep up the good work!!

Nice race in the cold!  I did a race in Colorado the same weekend and it was 15C.  So I know how you feel, nothing quite works the way it is supposed to.

Great job!  I can feel for you with that cold wind and no long tights on the legs.  YIKES!

Congrats to both of you.
