This poll has multiple answers:

As many know, I hold a triathlon in honor of my wife, Stephanie, who has terminal cancer. The proceeds go to cancer research and to help families who are in this horrible battle. One of the ways I am looking to raise money this year is by selling a running hat with a triathlon design on it. I want the design to be generic so that triathletes who don't know my wife nor the cause would still want to buy it. I figure "The Stephanie Johnson Triathlon" doesn't mean anything to someone in NY.

So here are two designs. Do you have a preference between the designs? And, how much would you pay for a hat. It is not a Headsweats brand but is similar in style and function.

I like the second one...

I'd probably pay $20-25 for it, since I knew the $$ was going for a cause.

Where can we buy?

My heart goes out to you. Good luck, and I hope you're able to raise alot of money...

PS What about a visor? Laughing

What if you combined them and replaced the word "triathlete" with "Tri4Life"?  Tri4Life can be your new brand name with which you sell millions of hats!  I would buy one for ~$25 if it was a good quality running hat.  Can we order online/phone/BT?

You, my friend, are wrong about this.  I continue to be amazed by your efforts in this.

Best of luck.

I second the visor suggestion.  I get overheated and don't wear a lot of hats while training.

x3 on the visor.

I voted for the first logo- it's a great slogan, and a great cause. Please let us know if/when you decide to market these.

I like the hat - visors usually give me a headache. $20 is good. If you are selling them at a booth, then that is just one bill to pull out to pay. And no change to count back.

Me and the Mrs. would probably buy either.  Just an FYI, a group she runs with did a purchase of HeadSweats and the embroided the logo, I think they paid $20 each, but it wasn't for charity.  I also think you'd get more buyers here if you did them as either highquality visors or hats. Headsweats or a better brand would also sell better.

Just an FYI - try4life.com is taken and is a yoga place. I think the logo would be fine, but I'd make sure first.  I think it's cool

But it's spelled differently. Though I'd still check, only because I can't imagine that someone hasn't used that before somewhere in triathlon land.

I do like the first logo, though.

I like the design of the first logo but I find the color to be way too somber, too serious.

since different types of cancer are associated with different colors (yellow, pink, purple), what about doing the text/design in color?

I would buy one that was a combination of "sorta generic" but also raised awareness for your organization. If you had an official slogan, or maybe something with a url on it people could go to, I would buy that and wear it to help point people to your efforts. Whatever regular retail for such an item is plus maybe a bit more since it is for such a familiar and local effort.

It will probably be sort of hard to come up with a slogan that isn't taken but maybe something like Tri4aCure or Triing2DefeatCancer.

Or, if there's no time to do the design and legwork for that, put up something that reflects your current org and I'll still buy it to contribute to your cause.

I like the combo and would buy one. and agree with the url link idea.

What about a bandana for my dog: "Tri Diggity Dog" or "Training Partner" with the combo above.

Keep up the good work and let us know where to get them.

OTOH, I avoid white ones, because they don't stay white for me very long.

I like the combined idea - tri4life with the little tri bodies under it. (and remember, you can't make everyone happy so take what you like, leave the rest when it comes to suggestions).

Keep us updated. I'd buy one - hat, visor or technical tshirt (don't really wear cotton tee's any more).

Fantastic feedback everyone!! Thank you!!

Regarding the name, there are several races that use the name "Tri For Life". triforlife.com is one, triforlife.net is a different one, and we are triforlife.org. I have done some research and don't find where the use of these words together is trademarked (though I'm not an atty so could have easily missed something.) In my limited experience with TMs, the use of words together like this would be difficult to TM. However, the logo itself (including design) could be TM'd. Great points brought up by all and something I'll look more into.

Regarding slogans, what we are using is "Keep TRI-ing until there's a cure" and we also have the website "TriUntilTheresACure.org" That will appear on the hat somewhere, but again trying to keep it a little more versatile overall.

I have a sample hat being sent to me. There is a big difference in price between Headsweats and this company, so I want to see why.

My graphic designer has this in a white logo on a black hat. Depending on the quantities I  have to order, I want to offer a couple of different color combinations of hats and visors. I have a dark running hat that get's hot. I've got a white one that stays dirty. The black hat/visor would look sharp (in my opinion) but we'll have a pink option and maybe a purple option (the general cancer color).

Again, all great feedback. Thank you so much!

Until there's a cure,
