I decided it was time to take off the training wheels and move on to real life.  I could constantly run in the sub 28:30 pace on the treadmill, and thought it might transfer over to the road.  No such luck.  So, just in time for winter in NJ, I decided to take the plunge to only running outside.  Perfect timing has never been my forte.

Now if I could just end boredom on the trainer.

Maybe you could get a friend or family member to occasionally throw small stuffed animal puppies at your bike so you can pretend to either evade them or run them over.

Not only would it be tons of fun, but you'd have stories to tell here every day.

Give me the cold over the treadmill any day.  You won't regret it.

As a year round outdoor runner, let me just say welcome to the club!  And if I can do it in Maryland, should be the same sort of conditions up there in Jersey.

Enjoy!  And get good cold weather gear!!!!!  Makes all the difference.

Is it wrong to push a stroller with a baby at night, over poorly lit roads, with snow and black ice on them, when the temp is below freezing, so I can get a training run in?  I mean the treadmill does suck and the kid needs to learn how to deal with the cold, right? Plus, I would not do more than 2 hours at a time.  Also, same question but with 5 year old in a bike trailer.

Lucky you!!! I'm stuck on the thing till I can get my 305.  I hate running without knowing my pace and HR.  Then I'll have true freedom!!!!  Rock on!!!

My gym membership is basically for the pool. Running outside is WAY better. I've run inside out of necessity (cuz of dark and being a girl in an urban area), but it sucks.

Kids are tough, just bundle 'em up right.  Heck, in Finland they put their little kids outside in the stroller to nap in the winter and there's no shortage of -cold- there!

Your pace really does take a hit when you have to exert that extra energy to actually push your way through the air.

True freedom is running where you dont' have a watch at all and you are just enjoying it. Hard to come by for us data junkie triathletes.

Good for you! I have not been to the gym in a long, long time. I LOVE running outside, even in the freezing cold...it gets wicked cold here.

As for trainer boredom I'm with you. Its mind numbing. I am going to try and ride outside as long as I possibly can this year...will put away the carbon and get out the old junker when it snows and they start to salt the roads.

I cancelled mine today as well. Hubby and I are saving for an adoption and that is money better spent for our daughter.

I can ride on the trainer, run outside or on my sisters treadmill. The swim will be the only issue. We might join the Y or I may join a masters group.

I recently sold my trainers and bought some rollers.  Was getting very lazy on the trainer.

Canadians run outside...even when it's cold.  ( well I do anyway)  They won't let my dogs run along side me on the treadmill at the gym.  Undecided

Canadian dogs are mean.  They eat your shoes if you don't take them for their run! Surprised Then you have to go all the way back to USA to buy more shoes because they don't sell Newtons in Canada.

Life sure is tough in Canada.  Cry
