I'm not signed up yet... but I think dumpster and I are in for the HALF.

I've been training for Cary, and I think I'm just going to run Cary on 3/15 and keep it going through Illinois on 4/11.

See you all there!

I was not if I was going to be able to do this race or not.  I figured I really could afford lodging but a friend of mine talked about driving down day of the race so I might see about doing that.  I know plenty of people who can pick up my bib for me if I decide to go.

It's been awhile since anyone posted here. How is everyone doing with their training? I put in my first 20 miler today and plan on at least one more, if not two, before the race. I'm also getting anxious for the race to just get here already!

It was not pretty.  It was so humid out and to boot I was dumb and ran the last 9 miles directly into a 15-20mph head wind.

Is it common at this point to not feel confident anymore?  BEcause I am there.

It's true that a really tough run can shake your confidence, but please don't get discouraged. When you train long enough you will inevitably have a few workouts, sometimes even key workouts, that don't go well. Sometimes they feel like complete disasters when you are in the middle of them.

But you can still get something useful out of them. We had less than optimal weather this weekend and you did your long run anyway. And you did the last 9 miles into a tough wind! Be proud of that. Think about what got you through it and how you can use that and build on it when things get tough during the race. And know that if you can do that in training you can definitely do it on race day!

And maybe start logging your workouts so we can drop in and leave encouragement for you in your logs along the way.

Well it has been awhile since ireplied.

This weeks run was 3 hours 32 minutes and I felt great after a two hour the day before!  Big transition from the week before when I was struggling!  Maybe the weather being so much nicer helped!

URGENT!!!

To those signed up for the Illinois marathon, in the Champagn News Gazette today there was an article saying the race will be cancelled if there are not more volunteers to help the intersections.

They need 225 more volunteers by April 1 (two weeks) or the race is cancelled.  If you have family members that could help it would help all of us out.

search the news gazette website for the article.

Oh my gosh! That's terrible. I hope they find some volunteers. How disappointing for everyone otherwise.

Found it. Not good. I'll volunteer if someone from Chicago can give me a ride down there! This is awful! BTers UNITE! I'm going to talk to my Team in Training group and let them know that this may not go and it'd be a great way to give back to the running community!!!

We should see if they've contacted area high schools and colleges and so on and so forth!

I've got a team of over 10+ people training for this right now. We have shirts made up and everything. The chatter on Facebook is getting fierce. We are already looking at plan B, but Illinois Marathon is my husband's first marathon and U of I is his alma mater! This would have been very symbolic for him. It really would be sad if he couldn't do this race. It just wouldn't be the same going somewhere else.

I started looking at other races that happen in the two weeks after this date as a plan B as well. The actual location isn't quite as sentimental for me, but we have an office there. My co-workers were really excited and had planned some events around me coming down for the weekend. It would be disappointing to have to call all of that off.

Wow - this is really nice of you!

When the few of us from this area who are planning on the race figure out our travel plans, we can let you know if you're still interested.

We could potentially come and get you on our way from Michigan! I don't know how it would work, exactly, but we could try!

I work for the Urbana School district, so I sent out a mass email to everyone. Hopefully someone will

They said that for each volunteer the marathon is going to give $18 to a not for profit organization.  I will be running in the race, but I have gained 4 people to sign up yesterday.
