Champion 15211 Southern Chicago Suburbs, IL | Subject: Galena Triathlon : Official Thread Ok, so I know this is still quite a ways off, but I was doing some research yesterday and noticed something. T1 is a LONG way away from T2. How do you get your gear back to the finish which is closer to T2? Any help would be appreciated. ;) |

over a barrier | Subject: RE: Galena Triathlon : Official Thread When you finish your swim, you pack all your T1 stuff in a provided plastic bag with drawstring, and the race volunteers back them up and truck them over to T2, they will be handed out after the race by the same group of volunteers (Chicag tri club usually). T2 you'll set up race morning before going to the race site....Just shoes and race belt. |

Oh, and are there shuttles, from the swim start, to T2 for spectators? I haven't had much luck finding out information on the web site. |

No shuttles for spectators that I know of, its a pretty short race. By the time T1 was cleared out, you'd be on the run. They have shuttles from T2 to T1 in the morning for racers. They'll post an athletes guide at some point. |

My first year doing this race, but my third season. I like to be prepared, if you couldn't already figure that out. |

Master 1480 Muskego, WI | Subject: RE: Galena Triathlon : Official Thread Just give yourself PLENTY of time, for the shuttles. I parked at the swim start, then caught the shuttle BACK to t1, to get my car and stuff. Then, drove back to t2 and picked up my bike. (awards ceremony is at t2...so you usually have time to go back and forth!) |

(awards ceremony is at t2...so you usually have time to go back and forth!) The wife and I are actually staying at Eagle Ridge (her treat for being my sherpa). Thanks again for all the info. I'm not too worried (yeah, right ), but I like to be mentally prepared so that I don't have to think about it come race day. |

New user 1 Lockport, IL | Subject: RE: Galena Triathlon : Official Thread what about wetsuit for this race. I have only done 1 tri before and it was in August last year in a man made pool of sorts(naperville tri) so there was no need for a wetsuit. Anyone know if it's recommened or what the average temp is of the water? Do most people go with or without the wetsuits? THANKS! |

New user 25 Crystal Lake | Subject: RE: Galena Triathlon : Official Thread Definately have a wetsuit for this tri. I did it last year without and I was probably one of four people without one. The water temps are usually around 50 degrees. |

Water temps will range from 58-64. As the race gets closer, they've updated the water temp on the home page of the triathlon in the past. |

Looks like the bike ride is very hilly does anyone now what the avg. times are for the bike ride? they're slow compared to other tri's of similiar distance but the field is very competitive. There is a new course this year which I think is going to produce a slightly faster bike but slower run times. The Jesus Saves hill is now gone which is nice. |

Huh, for some strange reason, I was looking forward to that. So the run is going to get harder huh? I plan on driving the course the day before just to get an idea. I've done 11 (will be 12 when I get to this one) races so far but no hilly runs. Any advice? |

You will probably need it. Oh, and above all, have fun. |

Master 1480 Muskego, WI | Subject: RE: Galena Triathlon : Official Thread I posted like this for last weeks Duathlon Nats in Va, and was fun meeting some of the BTers there. (even took care of two of them in the med tent!!) sooooo.... if you are in for sure...do you mind saying where you are staying, name and age group? That way we can look each other up, find the race numbers, then each other. We went as far as saying what we would be wearing... Pam Grande The Ramada F45-49 red Kestrel (not sure what I'll wear yet, with the cool temps!) Most likely before race will have on a shocking orange sweatshirt with Du Nats logo. |

David Crownover. Eagle Ridge. M35-39. Red Giant. I will probably be wearing charcoal grey TYR tops and bottoms. Before the race, no idea. Hoping the weather warms up a tad so that I won't have to bundle up too much. Never done this race before. How big is it? |

And it reinforces the need for the wetsuit! |
