Total Time = 2h 20m 49s
Overall Rank = 27/134
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 6/24
Pre-race routine:

Woke up and took the bike down to transition. Since the race doesn't start until 9:00 it's a pretty relaxed morning. Ate more than usual before a race I think this caused my stomach issues later.
Event warmup:

Wrestle with the wetsuit to get it on and walk down to the beach.
Swim
  • 27m 5s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 49s / 100 meters
Comments:

Felt good the whole time. Really calm out there so it was a pretty easy swim, felt a little short though.
What would you do differently?:

Not too much.
Transition 1
  • 02m 38s
Comments:

Kind of a long run from the beach to transition included in swim time. Had a little trouble getting my wetsuit off but everything else was pretty smooth.
What would you do differently?:

Get the wetsuit off quicker.
Bike
  • 71m 34s
  • 24.5 miles
  • 20.54 mile/hr
Comments:

Had some stomach issues for half the bike and most of the run but rode well and my legs a felt strong. I kept a good cadence and pretty good pace. I think I only let four people pass me while riding.
What would you do differently?:

I think if I hadn't eaten so much in the morning I wouldn't have had stomach issues, but overall I'm pretty happy.
Transition 2
  • 01m 43s
Comments:

No real problems, a little slow but no big deal.
What would you do differently?:

Go a little quicker.
Run
  • 37m 47s
  • 4.3 miles
  • 08m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt OK on the run. My stomach was bothering me but I had no problem running, I just couldn't go fast for some reason. The run was supposed to be a 10k but ended up as 4.3 miles, when I saw I was headed to the beach for the finish I was worried I had missed a turn but some girl said she thought it was short also so I just head for the beach and kicked through the sand to the finish.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Stood under the beach side shower to cool down, it felt great!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I felt pretty solid the whole race, my only mistake was eating too much in the morning and I think that was just a comfort issue and didn't really slow me down much.

Event comments:

Great time in Mexico with a group of my friends. Once again we had 2 people doing their first race, one of them my friends 61 year old mom. We had 2 sweet condos and cooked up great dinners for the group and just hung out. On Sunday we had a fun two man scramble golf tournament and then headed back to Phoenix. My only negative thing about the race is the shortening of the run, I had a good race going and I think could have had a Olympic distance PR if the distance was correct.

Hey Travis, great job! I wish I had known you were there, I would have searched you out to say hi! For the reason behind the short run course, see my race report below, they discussed it at the awards ceremony.
