If you wear socks in the run (like me) what do you do?

From bike to run transitions, when your putting on your running shoes, do you stand up and sort of lose your balance while putting on your socks or do you sit down?

I put them on in T1. Put a little baby powder in them and roll down to the toe, stick toes in roll up and go.
Can't stand to bike or run without socks.
Happy training.

bring a small bucket with your transition stuff in it. (i saw ice cream buckets to 5 gallon buckets at the last race.) flip it upside down. now you have a pedestal to put your foot on while put on your socks and shoes.

Every morning getting dressed you can pretend it's transition. That's the best way to get good at putting on socks/shoes while standing.

I'm totally serious. I had knee surgery, so this was the hardest thing I had to learn, how to balance on my new knee to put on my socks/shoes.

I go without socks on the bike. When I get into T2, I stand on my left foot and put on my right sock, then put my foot into the right shoe which is on the ground. I slide it in and use Yankz laces.
Then I stand on my right foot and repeat the process on the left foot. I do not kneel down and do not lose my balance.

i do it all in T2 and do it all standing.  Rolling the socks down helps.  Put them on, roll them off and leave them just like that.  Ez!

x2, no balance issues putting on running socks while standing.  I usually have to take off cycling socks, too.

I just stand. Sometimes, my leg cramps up when I stand on one foot, so I sit if that happens (that's not just a race thing, it happens to me all the time in everyday life for some reason).

I sit so I can wipe the dirt off my feet before putting the socks on

In the two HIM's I've done this year, I sat down to put my socks on. I put them on in T1 though. I figured if I was going to take the time to put socks on I'd enjoy them for the bike and the run.

The easiest and fastest thing I've done is after warming up pre-race, roll the socks down like a condom and place them on top of your shoes.  When you come into t1 to t2 (my preference), just put your toes in and unroll the socks.  It takes literally 2 seconds.  No adjustments necessary.  It works REALLY well and its fast.

Another sock roller, here. I put 'em on in T1, though, whilst seated on my buttocks.

In my first or second race, the announcer even called out to some people sitting down in T1. it was all in fun, but I thought to myself, don't sit down. I know seconds don't matter to most, but hey, I am not leaving with a medal, but a few seconds closer to post race beer, pizza or at least water gives me reason to save seconds. Anyways, I stand, 1 hand on my bike it I have to, and I put my socks on in T1.

I kneel on one leg and put my rolled up socks on top of the shoe, then unroll it onto my foot as it slides in the shoe.  Gotta save about 4 seconds by doing that.  Of course, I give it all back about 1000x over when I'm actually running...

Another roller here. Although, I generally stand on two feet, pivot my toes up (i.e, heel down toes up), roll the sock on then put my toes down, pitch my heel up, and finish rolling it onto my heel. Sounds more complicated than what it is, but if you try it you will see what I mean. It avoids having to balance and it avoids having to sit down. General rule: never sit down in transition! first of all its a race...there is no crying in baseball, and there is no sitting in races! second, you can cramp up if you sit (learned this the hard way).

I like using the Wright Socks Cool Mesh because they slide on very easily with wet feet. They are very soft and thin so you don't have to roll them, in fact I doubt you could roll them.

Definitely don't sit down! You'll not only waste time, but your muscles might start to tighten up a bit. Putting socks on standing up gets easy fairly quickly after practicing it every morning and generally everytime you put on socks.

I spread foot powder onto a towel in a 2 X 2 foot area (during transition setup).

When I come into transition T1 (after my wet suit is removed), I step onto the powder covered  towel while I get my shirt and helmet on.  Then I roll my socks on as others have described.

At this point I put my bike shoes on as they have recessed SPD clips the do not create problems walking or jogging.

For me, spending a few more seconds to ensure my shoes and socks are on straight and tightened properly makes a world of difference.

T2, I step out of my bike shoes (socks still on) and onto the same powder covered towel.  Get my helmet off, running hat on and step into my running shoes equipped with Yanks laces.

You must save all kinds of time without the extra, added weight of a bike SEAT. ; )

I like the baby powder idea.

Those who bike without socks.  Do you wear a special shoe designed to be worn without socks or do you just tough it out and ride in normal bike shoes without socks?

If your cycling shoes fit and they are decent quality, it doesn't matter.  Your feet don't move around that much.  I've never gotten a single blister in any pair of cycling shoe I've ever owned and I almost always ride without socks.

They are socks people.  You reach down and put them on.  One foot at a time.  There is no magic to it.  Pretty frickin' simple!

X2 to this method.  I leave my socks sitting in my shoes rolled up so that I just slip my toe into the sock sitting in my shoe and you can just pull the sock up to your ankle.  It helps to use the short socks that stop below your ankle.  You can keep your balance fairly easily since your toe is already stuck inside your shoe while you pull the socks up and you aren't really standing on one leg.
