Against.   You need to be able to see the traffic coming directly at you, in case you need to take evasive action.   Cars are going to be approaching you EXTREMELY fast, and may not see you at all.

I do all my training on county roads and would NEVER run with traffic.   Drivers just aren't paying attention sometimes.   95% of cars will move completely to the other side of the road when they see me.   I ALWAYS wave thank you to these people. (of course, I'm from Indiana, home of the wavers)

Against. The only time I ran with traffic was when there was a 4-foot shoulder on that side and nothing past the white line on the other. I still looked over my shoulder at each car.

Add me to the list of ALWAYS against traffic.  On country roads, the only time I will run with is around a sharp corner where the cars coming towards you will not see you.. then I immediately cross back over as soon as I am around the bend.

I ran in Ireland.  I kept forgetting which side.  I tried to run against traffic.

Yeah, what they all said.

The only thing I have to add is that I think running against traffic is even more important on country roads, because there often is no white line, nor shoulder, so you're actually running on the road.  You need to be able to see the cars coming toward you.

And watch the tractors that are hauling hay wagons. Those wagons swerve all over the road...

If there is no sidewalk, always run against traffic so they can see you and you can see them.

x2 on the corners and steep hills, I move to the side I think cars are going to have an easier time seeing me in those cases which is usually with traffic at that point, but other than that I always run against traffic.

Definitely run against traffic on the country roads. I used to do all of my running out in the country - and you want to be able to see the cars coming at you.

I don't think a clear consensus has emerged from all of these responses...so I'm going to be a rebel and say go against traffic

I run on the double yellow because I'm that awesome.

*snerk* I laugh, because on one spot on my typical run, the slope of the road is so steep that one leg is straight and the other is seriously bent, and it HURTS...so I run on the double yellow. Now, every time I do it, I'm going to think, "I do this because I'M AWESOME!"
