Veteran 312 Bessemer, AL | Subject: Specific Question about Tri Shorts Okay, so it has become glaringly obvious to me that I need a new pair of tri shorts. Kinda bummed because money's a little tight right now, but I've just got to have them. My 2 big issues: 1. I want a pad that will be the right size/shape. My current shorts have a pad that is too small so that I sit on them while in the saddle and it really hurts! I have seam prints on my booty area when I get done. No good! 2. I have BIG thighs in proportion to my body. I HATE it when the silicon (or whatever) band digs into my thighs and creates the bulging affect on either side - yuck! Uncomfortable and reallllly unattractive. Preference would be shorter shorts - not briefs though, I still like thigh protection during the run so that I don't start a fire from the chafing. Haha! So does anyone have any good recommendations for me? Oh, and if it helps I'm a 5'9 165 lb muscular female. Also (again, if it helps) my latest measurements were: Waist - 31.5" Abdomen (largest part) - 36" Hips - 39.25" Thigh (6" above knee cap) - 21" Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance! |

Champion 10618 | Subject: RE: Specific Question about Tri Shorts Even though I am male, I strongly recommend that you look into the offerings from DeSoto (www.desotosports.com; 858-578-6672). I have included the phone number because they have oustanding customer service (neck-and-neck with Newton Running), so if you phone and tell you what you want, they'll be more than happy to help you. When you go to their website, check out the Carrera tri short. It is quite short (6.25" inseam for large, 5.75" for medium), and the pad is one-piece and seamless. This seems to meet the requirements you mention in your post. Their Forza line offers a tri short with what they call an Integrated Invisipad, and for the women's model they mention a specific hourglass shape to the pad. I have been wearing DeSoto tri shorts EXCLUSIVELY since 2000, and one of the prevailing selling points for me is the seamless pad. The pad is also quite minimalistic, but the seamlessness solves a lot of potential problems. Any DeSoto tri short is phenomenal to run in, due to the inobtrusive pad. The only drawback is that DeSoto stuff is moderately pricey, and seeing as how you mention that money is tight, that might be a problem. But I really think that for the requirements you need, you will be best served by swallowing hard and paying the extra for something that meets your demands. Happy shopping! |

Extreme Veteran 664 Minneapolis | Subject: RE: Specific Question about Tri Shorts x2 for DeSoto. I will not even consider another short (I've been through a few now) - A+ customer service (call 'em, they'll happily hook you up with the size info you need), they fit like a champ, uber comfortable on the bike and distance runs, etc. I'm a big fan. Cheers, Chris |

Master 1517 Raleigh | Subject: RE: Specific Question about Tri Shorts i also wear desoto forza low cut shorts...i cant stand havin a high rise booty short. the pad is a small soft fleece liner- perfect for the saddle but quaint enough to not be there on the run. no gripper rings on the legs. the only con- i dont like is that they say they dont hold up in chlorinated pools. i've swam about 7 times in the pool with mine...so far so good...now if the seams break on me in the race on sunday, i'm sorry everyone, i shoulda heeded the pool warning...hehehe |

At all. I used to swim in mine cause I only owned one swimsuit and paid the price. Three pairs of shorts and two tops. They just fall apart. There is a reason they put the warning there... learned my lesson. |

Master 1572 PA | Subject: RE: Specific Question about Tri Shorts i love the women's zoot ultra tri shorts. $99. No silicon leg grippers, and they stay put. I'm 5'7, 135-140 & i wear a medium in those shorts to give you and idea. 10,000x better than my $60 Zoot tri shorts. You get what you pay for. |

Master 2665 The Whites, New Hampshire | Subject: RE: Specific Question about Tri Shorts I don't have specific recs, but you might actually want to consider LONGER shorts, not shorter. It is a royal PITA finding ones long enough, but I like them to sit nicely under the point of my quad - holds them in place without as much squeeze, and no bulge (even when, *ahem* the muscle is not quite as well developed as I would like it to be ). |

New user 4 | Subject: RE: Specific Question about Tri Shorts I recently purchased a pair of ladies De Soto Forza tri shorts - I just love them, they're great to run in and/or bike. They have no silicone on the leg bands and the shorts stay in place. I purchased a size large and they fit well. I am 5'11" ~ 155 lbs, waist is 29.5, hips 38, and my thigh measurment is 20". Science Nerd 28760 Redwood City, California | Subject: RE: Specific Question about Tri Shorts I have a pair of the Sugoi Piston Tri shorts. I love them. They don't have the silicone band along the leg and the chamois is pretty big. I'm a little shorter than you, but otherwise about the same measurements. Here's link to the product page at Sugoi. I found them somewhere else for cheaper. Don't remember where. |

They are my tri club shorts, so they aren't branded the same way. Best leg grippers ever! I found a site for Aevero (www.aevero.com I think). They have really good quaility clothing and they usually haev a special where when you buy one item you get a second item for free. I bought a pair of tri shorts and could choose from cycling shorts or a jersey, for free. Plus the tri shorts were only about $30. So far they have held up extremely well. Haven't been in the pool with them just yet but in every other way they are great. |

Master 2167 Livonia, MI | Subject: RE: Specific Question about Tri Shorts I totally know what you mean about hating the digging and bulging effect of the typical tri/cycle short. I just ordered the Sugoi Lucky Spyn Shorts from REI and love them. They're a bit shorter and fit more like a standard pair of fitted stretch workout shorts than like tri/cycle shorts. |

Expert 1040 SF Bay Area | Subject: RE: Specific Question about Tri Shorts Yet another thumbs up for DeSoto. I have 2 pair of Forza shorts (men's XL). They are outstanding. I also have a DeSoto tri suit and some DeSoto tops. Great quality, good colors, no dumb graphics or advertising. Another thing about the tops, they make one with 3 good-sized pockets, great for hauling food and stuff. |

Master 2638 | Subject: RE: Specific Question about Tri Shorts I was going to say just what poster #2 said about DeSoto shorts. They have no grippers or seams along the "middle" and they don't ride up (my Sugois do but that could be because I was between sizes). And, the DeSotos come in low-rise so they don't make your tummy hurt where the elastic is. They also come in regular rise if you are OK with elastic at the waist. For more cost-effective shopping, look for older models of the shorts (Carrera model) on clearance or on e-bay. |

Veteran 378 The Cold North | Subject: RE: Specific Question about Tri Shorts I have a similar thigh size to yours and had the same issues. My waist is relatively small but I have largely unproportional thighs. I have the Desoto Forza shorts. I went with their sizing chart and got a medium. The shorts are really comfortable, nice pad that's not too bulky for the run but good on the bike, and no seams like a pp mentioned. I do find that they dig in on the thigh though. If I were to buy another pair, I would probaby size up. They have a great drawstring in the waist so I don't think sizing up would hurt. Other than that, great shorts! |

Veteran 205 | Subject: RE: Specific Question about Tri Shorts i ordered a large and they fit just right. i'm about a 33" waist. only thing i didn't like is the drawstring is sized for like XS or something. i changed it out and it was only like 34" long or something. crazy. but, i'm completely satisified. x2 on the included cycling jersey. |
