Overall Rank = 747/1445
Age Group = F 45-49
Age Group Rank = 19/62
Pre-race routine:

Up @ 3:15, made coffee & pb toast, out the door by 4:10. Glad I packed the night before. Almost forgot my wetsuit that was still hanging up to dry.

Event warmup:

Quick spin to make sure it was shifting properly -- don't know what I would've done if it wasn't, tho. Quick run up the little hill. Ran into Terry and jogged back with him. Not feeling much energy even tho took 3 days off before the race. Swam a lap and was very dizzy coming out of the water so ate a little and had some gatorade.
Swim
  • 45m 2s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 45s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started toward the outside in the 2nd row but couldn't stay on anyone's feet. Tried to draft off some guys as they passed me but they were kicking big and didn't want to get kicked in the face again, and then they were gone. Passed by several colors of caps. Kept plugging away but I'm slow. Tried to push it without getting winded. Took a couple seconds to wave at Ted in the kayak :) If the distance is right, this is one of my worst swims lately. Was happy to find I wasn't at all dizzy when I stood up.
What would you do differently?:

Sight better on the way out. Learn to swim faster.
Transition 1
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

Passed a couple guys on the run to T1. No sox so faster than usual.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to hop on my bike w/o stopping.
Bike
  • 1h 25m 59s
  • 26.1 miles
  • 18.21 mile/hr
Comments:

Followed my plan of taking it easy til the hill was behind me, then hammering it home. Hill wasn't as tough today.
What would you do differently?:

Attack the hill more knowing I had lots of recovery time.
Transition 2
  • 01m 17s
Comments:

Got to my space and there was a Cervelo lying across the top of my stuff. Didn't want to scratch the pretty bike so worked around it. Cost me some seconds, but I didn't miss the podium by seconds ;) STILL DEFENDED MY TITLE IN T2!!! Makes you wonder what the rest of the ladies are doing in T2?!
What would you do differently?:

Apparently, nothing.
Run
  • 53m 8s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

Every aid station I took 2 waters, 1 for my head, the 2nd for a couple sips then down the front or back of my shirt. My shoes were drenched by the end of the race!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing I guess since my stand alone 10k PR is around 50'. Felt great running in my Nike Frees :)
Post race
Warm down:

Drank a water, grabbed the bag I had stashed, changed shoes, ate a Clif bar, found Ted, got food, drank beer, watched some of the pros finish. Looking back I should have had more water -- I had chills at the race, then a terrible headache the rest of the day. Felt like I could have thrown up any minute from the bike til I went to bed that night.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat. We were soooo lucky it became overcast at some point during the race -- temps were predicted to hit 90+.

YOU RAWK!

Ya kicked azz on Olde Stage for sure, Susan!  I don't know about the other ladies, but I decided to double back and get my race number when I saw I had forgotten it (again)...I also forgot to tighten laces...thems my excuses for slow T time.

FUN race though!

Nice job! I saw you on the run but couldn't get any words out of my mouth. As long as you keep winning the T2 race I'd tell the other ladies in your AG to keep on doing whatever the heck it is they're doing!

Good job!

During T2 I was contemplating hiding my friend's shoes so he couldn't pass me during the run. Well, that and untying and tying my shoes.

You were smokin' that course just like we knew you would.  Great race and awesome transition times.  Will I be as fast as you if I wear my pink polka dot top for the Long Course?

Great race!

It's the reapplication of the makeup that slows the other ladies down in T2.  They don't have your natural beauty!

Great race! I agree ^^^^^ the rest of the women are applying make-up for the finish photo. When I ran the Twin Cities Mary last year I was a half mile from the finish and a girl next to me asked me if her mascara was smeared....All I could think was....."REALLY?!?! 26 miles and you are worried about your mascara?!?!"...  :)

CONGRATS!

Nice race. That hill is always tough but you managed it well. The swim may have been long and if it was that likely put you over 3 hours. Some day I'll have to meet up with the BTers at these races.
