Practice: Pinehurst Oly Ride 10/04/09

I can do it early, but Sunday afternoon is out for me. I like to be done before my wife and kids get going with their day.

I am planning on going down saturday AM, weather permitting. I do not have a time yet, but the earlier the better. I would like to do the run and the bike.

yea, I was wanting to do it Sunday morning too. I don't think it's feasible for me to go on Sat, with company in town and the U2 concert later...Who else wants to ride this course?

Put me down as a maybe for Sunday morning. I have my first sprint on Saturday and I am for fo-show going ALL OUT  during the race. So if my legs are feeling good, I am there bud.

Sorry I can't meet you guys down there. If you don't mind posting any noteworthy features of the course, like "beware of the long hill the rounds a bend at mile 20...it doesn't end when you get around the bend", "watch out for the guy chewing tobacco at mile 14- he does not like guys in spandex", I would really appreciate it. I did the race last year but with the change in the bike course I am curious. Have a good training ride. We are riding the flu-wave here in my house so I need to stay close, provide liquids and support when needed, and stress about when to start tapering :-)

OK SWMBO has given the ok for Sunday AM. I am for 9AM!

Id like to meet where T1 is but I read somwhere that area is a private lake?  So can we even go/ park there?  Anyone know?  If not T1 and take it out from there?  I dont even know where T1 is yet?

we can get in... it is a private lake but the marina is open for parking. if worse comes to worse, I'm a Pinehurst member and can infuriate a rage like fire!

I'm in for 9 also. so you guys just want to meet there? anyone tryin to carpool/caravan down at all?

I know courtney from jlows was on the fence about coming out, she was going to ride with me but i've not heard back from her yet...

I'm going to have to pass on this ride, buds. I bought tix to the Durham Beer Festival (evening session) tomorrow. I'll be getting my drink on after busting my at LRT! I'll probably be passed out on someones floor Sunday morning, so I'm not even going to try and make it.

Well now, Scottie, we're going to have to change that attitude! Your off season plan should include hill repeats on Lystra!

Scottie its a good thing you skipped the run if you hate hills! That is almost all there is! Mile 2, 3.5, 4-5 all suck!

Two of my training buddies rode it Saturday.  The author smokes me on the bike (46:02/22.81mph vs. my 47:07/22.29mph at Triangle).

Here's his report:

The ride was good.  The course is tough.  The first 15 miles are not too bad and have some pretty fast stretches, but then you get onto the old part of the course (but in reverse) and hit a longs slow grader up to Hwy 73, and then 3 back to back hills that took us down to about 10 – 12 mph.  These were followed by another long slow grader.  I think there were at least 5 good hills on the course, so should be a challenging day.  We were taking it relatively easy and spinning up hills and pretty much staying comfortable on the fast stretches too.  We ended up at 19.4mph overall.
