Do you do your long runs on a Saturday morning and your long ride on a Sunday morning or vice versa?

Or does anyone do their long rides and runs during the weekdays if they work full time? I presume most people that work full time only have 1 to 1.5 hours before work and then again after to fit in the training.

I usually do a long ride on either Saturday or Sunday, depending on which day is the least busy/better weather.  I try to do a long run during the week so I am not doing long days back to back.

Long bike is early Sunday morning when the traffic is lightest.

So far long run has been during the week, but I had to start my last run at 4:30 am in order to finish in time to get dressed for work.

I normally take Saturdays off for rest and house chores. Not sure what I'm going to do yet other than keep getting up a bit earlier just that one day a week. Eventually, I might have to move long run to Saturday. I don't particularly like to run after the work day (low energy).

I do my long ride on Saturday morning and then my long ride on Sunday morning. My wife can't wait for my training to be over with!

I have been doing the majority of my running during the week primarly before work unless I have a swim.  I am a morning person so getting up at 4 or 4:30 is not a problem and it gives me more family time in the afternoons.

If I had any sort of system to my training, this is what I'd do.  (Maybe next year....)

I did long rides on Saturday morning.  If I thought I could handle it, I followed those up with a long run on Sunday.  If I didn't feel up to it, I canned/shortened the run.

I used to do a long ride Saturday and long run Sunday, but I get home early enough now (usually) to do a long run in the evening.  Plus as often as not I'm working Saturday, so the long ride gets pushed to Sunday.

I do all my long workouts during the week, and take the weekends off.  If I do workout on a weekend, it's usually a short workout.

However, I work Fri, Sat, Sun nights, 7p-7a and I'm off Mon-Thurs.

Long run saturday long ride sunday.  Not enough time on weekdays.  Also it fits into my life better that way.

During IM training, I did my long ride on the weekend but my long run on a weekday. My longest run was 2:30, so I had no problem finishing it and getting to work so long as I was up by 4 a.m. I really enjoyed not doing the long run and ride on back-to-back days. I definitely had better runs and got more out of the workouts that way.

Is there any benefit of doing the bike on the Saturday and the run on the Sunday? Or likewise with doing the run Saturday and then the bike Sunday?

For IM training (don't know if that's your interest or not), I'd heard that it was a good idea to put a long run in the day following a long ride to get used to running on tired legs.  I used that approach this past season, and had a decent IM run.  In spite of that, I'm not sure I'd do the same Sat/Sun thing again.  The IM run felt nothing like my Sunday long runs.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Do I think hitting a long run a day after the long bike is good? You bet. Are there benefits to putting a few days between them? You bet. But for me, I recover well from long rides and can still have quality long runs the next day. Other athletes might be better served putting some distance between them to make sure they are of good quality.

Yes because we run after we ride when we race. So doing long ride one day and long run next is more like how we race.

This year I did long rides followed next day by long runs.

Last year different coach I did long runs separated from long rides by a few days as the idea to have good quality long training and avoid possible injury running on fatigued legs from long ride.

NOTHING can prepare you for how an IM run will feel. Your issue sounds more like a fitness issue than timing.

long run / swim is easy to do after work.  for me at least.  gyms tend to be open till 11 and you can run outside for 2 hrs anytime....that is in florida anyways.

biking is an issue because i don't want to spend more then 1 hr on trainer when i can just do it outside on the weekend.

ETA: Misunderstood you.  I agree, not being able to run the day after some of my long rides was a fitness issue.  I always pushed my long rides to my limit.  Could barely make it home on most of them.  That meant I struggled to make my long runs the following day.  Next time I think I'd move the long runs to a different day.

My coach puts my long runs midweek and my long rides on the weekends. It works for me and allows for adequate recovery time to put in quality workouts for both.

Depends on how long each is going to be in a given weekend.  The weekends of my peak runs don't coincide with my peak rides AND the pool I swim at only has Sunday lap swim after noon, so swim pretty much has to happen on Saturday.  Which ever is longest ends up getting Sunday AM all to itself and the other typically happens after Saturday morning swim workout.  All things being equal, I prefer riding Sunday, just because in LA the difference in traffic is pretty noticeable vs. Saturday.

Another vote for ride on Saturday, run on Sunday.  Although this was mostly because I have some running races this fall on Sundays so I wanted them to happen on planned running days, and I haven't gone particularly long yet since starting to ramp things back up after a bit of a lull at the end of the summer.
