Darlin', you're grasping. But I understand that you need to find some redemption for the men. :-P Edited by Renee 2005-06-02 3:46 PM |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Way to go everyone! I'm glad we won, but I'm still terribly bummed that I didn't make my goal. I guess I was a little overly ambitious! These challenges are really a good motivator! Edited by pippen 2005-06-02 3:52 PM |

Seems like the ladies really get fired up about competing with the men and not so much without our reflection. ![]() ![]() |

But what that disclosure does not reflect is what the results would have been had the Ladies been personally challenged to beat the Men. No telling what the numbers might have looked like - it's a Coulda Shoulda Woulda situation - but if the Swim and Run challenges are anything to go by we would be seeing a rather awkward hush come over BT (at least from half of us) about now. |

Or it could mean that chicks are slackers when it comes to cycling. I see you fell short of your stated cycling goal (OH! All your stated goals!) last month, too much swimming and too much jawing? |

We'll never know since there was never a Girls v Boys Bike Challenge. Maybe you should do one for June! Ohhhhhh... but the shame if the men were to lose! Are you willing to risk it? Methinks not. And about my goals - so my reach exceeds my grasp. Happens when you set high goals for yourself, especially in areas outside your comfort zone, and are willing to bite off more than you can chew. Speaking of goals and challenges... you don't enter challenges outside your comfort zone, do you? Not ready to put yourself out there? Perhaps not willing to risk someone calling you on missing your goals? |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am down for a boys v. girls bike challenge. I would like to see a minimum though -- something like 200 miles for the month. I noticed on the run challenge some people had really low miles for their goal. Without a minimum, you have sandbagging on the goals and people will readily achieve their goal (not that the girls did than on the run challenge or anything). Bear, fire up your spreadsheets and let's get it on. Mike |

No girl vs boy bike challenge because last month we were focused on something more trivial, like supporting some BTers charitable efforts. Sorry we didn't do the important stuff of trying to ogle members of the opposite sex. Honestly, the reasons I didn't participate in the run and swim challenge is 1) I'm battling varrious lingering running injuries, and 2) I'm focusing on swim technique in order to improve my godawful inefficiencies. Neither of those situations lends itself to pursuing a quantity-based goal. As others have found, I'm hard-headed enough to achieve my goals even if it's not in my best interest. I'm not one, like unnamed others, to have my mouth write a check my butt can't cash. I'd be happy to keep track of any bike challenge y'all want to throw together, just let me know. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I don't think its fair to assume that someone sandbagged their numbers just because they are lower than yours. We are all beginner triathaletes here but some of us, alot of us, are first time athletes. This time last year, I could not even run a quarter mile without weezing. As of March, I did not even know how to swim. And the last time I set foot on a bike was when I was in my early teens. Yes, my swim goal was lower than many others, but considering I have only swam for the past 3 months, I felt it was very ambitious-- it was almost double what I had swam in any of the 2 previous months. I worked hard to push beyond that goal and it helped me in my swimming. I didn't participate in the run challenge but my goal there would have been lower compared to others, most definitely. I have never ran more than 6 miles at one time..and I'm lucky if I can do that twice a month. But I'm getting stronger in my running and look forward to continued progress-- it just comes slower for me than some others. As for the bike, I hit 14 miles yesterday-- a first for me. So my point, I know some of the guys are upset about loosing the swim and run challenge but remember it was all in good fun. Don't forget that we are all here to improve ourselves-- and that will mean we all have different goals to achieve. ![]() |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Now, I've stayed away from these "challenges" lately for a lot of the reason's mentioned above. But, a more fair way to administer such a challenge is to commit to a 20% increase in your mileage (or yards) over a prior month. That is simple and will reduce the potential for sandbagging. We'd have to rely on the honesty of individuals to volunteer if they, for some reason, didn't put in a full month's training in a certain discipline. We could adjust those specific situations as necessary. I'm game for a challenge. I'm tired of hearing all these pretty ladies gloating and I continue to be sickened by all the photo's of the guys in spandex (its just not right). |
