I understand all that Daremo, but I believe the idea of threads is to try and stay on topic. Actually, I would be interested in what you think about the TT yesterday.

I'll answer that!

It meant.....NOTHING! It was a fun little TT for Lance and Lieto to create a little buz and have fun. Their results are meaningless. Lieto was there on vacation, doing a little training, Lance is there doing a full on camp. This was hardly a proper TT and the results don't show anything of meaning relative to the guys, no conclusions can be drawn nor should they be.

Not so. I have concluded I would really like to be riding my bike in Hawaii right now.

I'll agree!  I've also concluded I want to take a TTX for a ride sometime but that might be because of the recent bike pjorn getting tossed around.

But, but, wait, did you hear that LA's entourage van was behind him blocking a lot of the tailwind?  So he really was almost spinning out his 53 with less than the full tailwind.  What do you think about that?

What he said ^^^^.

Or to put it my usual way:

It doesn't mean sh-t because it was not a race.  It was a a fun publicity stunt between friends.

I'm sure they both worked hard, but things would be different on a "real" course with real incentives - not a downwind leg of a 10 mile course.  Hell, Thor Hushovd has won a prologue!  Short TT's are all about massive power outputs for short durations and going aggressive as hell to be aero.  Comfort be damned!  What this event tells us is one thing ...... that using current media techologies you can generate a lot of buzz in very little time if you say the right things.  It has everyone here talking - on multiple threads to boot!

Daremo- You're by far more experienced than me and I'm not trying to sound like I think differently but...did you think Lance would podium last year? Just sayin'

I thought he had a good chance.  The only unkowns were the Schleck brothers.  And since everyone was looking out for Andy's position and chance to beat AC, then Frank sacrificed his Tour for him.  Frank could have beaten LA if he hadn't ridden for his brother.  Evans, Basso, VDV et al. were off their form or injured.  Wiggo was in an unknown realm as a team leader and still has some experience he needs to gain before he can be a superstar in a grand tour.  No one else was going to challenge for the podium.

Astana easily had the strongest team last year (as an Armstrong/Bruyneel based team usually does) and the field was not really that deep with superstars.  So yes, I did think he had a shot if things went his way.  Not to win, but a podium shot.

But again, in the moments that really mattered, his age showed up big time.  He was not "fast" up any hills and his TT'ing was well below his usual standard.  Some of that was him carrying all that extra crap weight from his upper body work he had been doing, but he has smartly ditched the weights since he really got back into training and is getting back down to his old race weight and position.

Bottom line to me?  You can beat a lackluster field but you can't beat mother nature ......

But those aren't TTX's they're riding...they're Speed Concepts.

Yup.  While the TTX may have had some decent numbers in the tunnel, Trek couldn't help themself and "stole" other people's proven technology and built a frame like them (see Felt DA, Spec. Shiv, Giant Advanced, Cervelo P4) to make their own line faster.  Gawd forbid Trek should ever be original ..........
