Swim
Comments: Since I was doing the relay, my sole goal was to swim hard and not be afraid. I swam way faster than usual, so I certainly made some kind of progress. I kicked until I was out of breath then took a few recovery strokes. Had to stop a few times to clear out some mucus in my throat - ew. Guess that's what you get for taking water into your nose :) Was alone a lot, it was a smallish wave and a big river. Had a good wetsuit burn going at my neck, but tried to ignore it. Pulled myself from the river at the exit and saw 29:somthing on my watch and then ran quickly up to the mat. This was a long run from the mat, across rail tracks, across the streets, around transition, etc. Handed off my chip and collapsed. What would you do differently?: Body Glide! I probably could have pushed a tiny bit harder. I was tired at the end, but I don't think due to the swim. The run to T was difficult and I layed it all out there. Transition 1
Comments: The transition time includes the long run and chip transfer. My teammate was ready to go and I think we did a great job! Bike
Comments: My teammate did a great job! 1:30 on a really hilly course. Transition 2
Run
Comments: My teammate made SUPER fast work of this. 52 mins and change and finished strong. Post race
Warm down: After I finished the swim I cleaned up and watched the finish line. This race was full of pros that I know from watching tris on TV so it was really exciting for me. Enjoyed cheering them and everyone else in for a good couple of hours. When our runner came in (early!) I went down to the finish line to congratulate him and pick up swag. They were nice enough to give us all finisher shirts and medals, although I certainly didn't do the hard work that everyone else did. I will enjoy the shirt very much. I saw later than we landed in 3rd place! Last updated: 2010-04-07 12:00 AM

I got up early and since I wasn't at home, it was a cinch to get dressed and ready to go. Already had my wetsuit in the car and my bags packed. Finally ran out of stuff to do, so I left to get coffee and get parked. Really glad I did, because I got the perfect spot for me. Sat in the car for a bit to finish up my coffee and walk to transition.
Since I was doing a relay (swim), I put a small bag of stuff in our transition area. Fortunately we were near the end, so I stashed it out of the way of the regular racers. I watched Heather Gollnick tape interviews with people and chatted with a few racers. When my team showed up (Bear and his son Dylan), I decided to make my way down to the swim start.
The only part of this race I didn't love was the walk to the swim start. I was barefoot and walked who knows how far on the sidewalk. My tootsies were pretty cold. I hung around and ran across several BTers. I recognized Tri Take Me Away and ADollar from their online pictures and introduced myself and chatted for a bit. Saw the rest of the group and eventually made my way with my wave into the water.
We were the very last wave. We weren't really allowed in the water in advance, even though some people jumped in downstream (which I should have done in retrospect). But as soon as we got to the pier I jumped in and was rewarded with water warmer than the air. Bliss! Swam back and forth to warm up as much as possible.
