As far as we know he has done no campaigning," state party spokesperson Keiana Page said. "We have no idea how he won."

SC sure has had its share of wacky politics lately (mayor who forbade the police to chase criminals, ban on "subversive" organizations, the infamous "hiking" trip to Argentina, now this) WTF?!

In my estimation, the left/right wing split seems not to be a factor...just weird for the sake of weird.

I think SC is becoming the republican's California...

Its like New Orleans... its that hot, humid, swamp gas for air that makes them all crazy...  slowly cooks their brains inside their head...

I loved the "TARP-what's that..." comment from the nominee...  You have to love America!

His TV interview was awful.  At one point he said, "Can we stop?  I want to be done" and all they did was ask where and how he campaigned.

Looks like a coordinated effort by Republicans to vote for this guy in the primary.   Holy CARP.

Any republican should be a shoe-in in the fall.

He's going up against Jim Demint - who was going to win in a landslide no matter who he was up against - this just save the RNC from having to spend any money on this race at all.

I feel sorry for all of you from SCCry

I have lived in SC for 40 of my 43 years and I can promise you that the politics in this state have been this crazy forever. It’s kind of like Chicago politics done redneck style. Keep in mind that we are the state that gave America Lee Atwater.

I can promise you that this has nothing to do with Republicans voting in the Democratic primary. We had hotly contested Republican battles for every major elected position and voters in the Republican primary FAR outnumbered the voters in the Democratic primary.

There were no really hotly contested Democratic contests which drove Democratic participation low. This race to be the Democratic candidate against a popular conservative in an ultra conservative state was so unpublicized that I would guess that there were very few Democratic voters who even knew the name of either candidate. I think the speculation of the Democratic Party chair is probably correct in that most people voted for this idiot because his name was FIRST on the ballot.

What amazes me even more is that state Democratic Party officials had no idea who this guy was. I mean there are not that many candidates to keep up with and you would think that they would pay a little more attention to a candidate for the US SENATE.

oh please... that means one,, that they are coordinated, and organized.. and seriously if any democrat can't beat this guy then they deserve to lose..

I"m put more faith in the thinking that since his name was first on the ballot...  unless it's like that eddie murphy movie a few years back when he had the same name as someone that had passed away but been in politics before..

Like I mentioned earlier, this is a race against a popular ultra conservative republican who could win this ultra conservative state with almost no campaigning.

Plus, if Republicans were going to do this, then they would have certainly not voted for the only legitimate Democratic candidate for governor who won convincingly.

Just an example of why the Democratic party struggles so in this state. Incompetence at the party level.

Not only looks bad for the state of SC but also for the University of SC who apparently has confirmed that this idiot earned a degree from there in 2000. Doesn't say much for our largest state supported university.

not to mention nikki haley, candidate to replace governor hiking trip, and her two alleged affairs. or the state senator who called both her and obama "ragheads."

I thought having an affair was prerequisite to being an elected leader these days.
