moondawg14 - 2010-06-11 9:36 AM Looks like a coordinated effort by Republicans to vote for this guy in the primary. Holy CARP.
Any republican should be a shoe-in in the fall.
He's going up against Jim Demint - who was going to win in a landslide no matter who he was up against - this just save the RNC from having to spend any money on this race at all. I feel sorry for all of you from SC
I have lived in SC for 40 of my 43 years and I can promise you that the politics in this state have been this crazy forever. It’s kind of like Chicago politics done redneck style. Keep in mind that we are the state that gave America Lee Atwater.
I can promise you that this has nothing to do with Republicans voting in the Democratic primary. We had hotly contested Republican battles for every major elected position and voters in the Republican primary FAR outnumbered the voters in the Democratic primary.
There were no really hotly contested Democratic contests which drove Democratic participation low. This race to be the Democratic candidate against a popular conservative in an ultra conservative state was so unpublicized that I would guess that there were very few Democratic voters who even knew the name of either candidate. I think the speculation of the Democratic Party chair is probably correct in that most people voted for this idiot because his name was FIRST on the ballot.
What amazes me even more is that state Democratic Party officials had no idea who this guy was. I mean there are not that many candidates to keep up with and you would think that they would pay a little more attention to a candidate for the US SENATE.
