I see people at the pool in the locker room washing out their swimsuits/jammers in the sink.  Presumably washing out the cholrine will prolong the life of your jammers or swimsuit.  I have never done this and simply throw mine in the laundry basket and they get washed in warm water and dried in the dryer.  My jammers last about a year.

So how much life does one buy if they 'take care' of their swimsuit?

The endurance (poly) variety seem to last longer.  Lycra has a much shorter life.  I'm not sure how much rinsing makes a difference, though I nearly always rinse my suit in the shower after a swim.

I always take a shower at the pool locker room after swimming and strip my jammers off in the shower, wring them out, and then hang them up to dry at home.

I usually have two pairs - I buy a new pair every year and "retire" my oldest pair.

I did just buy a pair of TYR polester jammers and am curious to see how long they last.

I rinse mine in cold water after swimming (in the shower before I step into it).  Never put it in the wash.  A suit lasts me at least 2+ years.

Wait... you DRY your (training) swimsuit? Like in the dryer? ;-)

Seriously, though, mine just get rinsed as I'm showering after a swim. Swimsuits are made of material that dries quickly so I'm guessing putting them in the heat of a dryer isn't helping their lifespan. Could be wrong about that, though. My jammers from last year still look great but I've switched to a smaller suit this year so I don't know how long those jammers would last.

I'm not real good about washing right after I swim.  My first pair only lastest about 4 months.  But they were a little small and that may have helped them along.  I usually wash on delicate and hang to dry.

I rinse mine out in the shower after every swim, and put it in the washing machine about once every 4 or 5 swims.
Always hang dry.

Just a rinse in the shower. I swam in high school, 5 workouts a week and I'm pretty sure I never washed any of my suits, ever.

I can't figure out why you would even NEED to wash it. (I mean, assuming you hop in the shower with it afterwards or whatnot...)

I have a vague recollection that the tag on my lycra jammers said not to wash it in a washing machine.  Just rinse out and dry.  I do get some shower soap in there- which is much more gentle than laundry detergent.

Me jammers have never touched a washer or dryer.  They get rinsed in the gym shower after a swim, squeeze them dry as best as I can, then as soon as I get home they hang until the next swim session.

I love the TYR swimmies I've had over the years - and they do last about 2/3years! But never, never put them in the dryer. Rinse the chlorine out after a pool swim and hang to dry.

Not much more. Mine usually stretch out after about a year, depends on how much time you spend in the pool. :p

same...never thought to wash them haha. no sense washing it when you are going right back in the pool the next day. of course in HS the rents had control of the wash and wouldn't have let me "run up their water bill" by washing a swim suit everyday.

Uh, I generally step into the shower wearing them, rinse off, remove them, ring them dry and keep going.

They actually go in wash at the end of the week or two. And then I don't dry them either.

They seem to last about a year or so.

I've a set of TYR poly jammers that I've been using 4 seasons. Other than the logo having rubbed off long ago they are in excellent shape. I rinse them out with a bit of soap to help neutralize the chlorine. Then just hand to dry.
I never use a washing machine or dryer.  And I only iron them for very formal black-tie swims.

I have the basic TYR maxback comp suit from swim outlet.  It lasts about 6 mos.  I swim in it, and then rinse it in the shower.  I gently squeeze the excess water out and let it dry flat.  I try to avoid direct sunlight.  I don't roll it up in a towel and never use the wash machine.  I do have to travel about an hour to swim, so the wet suit is in the back of my car for the ride home.  Sometimes I do a little shopping before heading home, so the heat of the car may not be so good for it.  I only swim 1-2x per week.

I rinsed my lycra jammers in the shower after every swim, and they were still shot after a couple months.

Buy polyester.

Except for last year, I usually swim about 350-375,000 yards per year, pool and ocean, so my jammers get a lot of use.  Swim, rinse in shower, spin in suit dryer, stick in bag until next workout.  In the ocean, rinse a bit in the shower, stick in bag, pull out wet at next practice.

On occasion, if I think about it, they get an actual cold wash hang dry if they're around when I am doing a load of workout stuff.  Maybe twice in a season

Buy about 1 pair per year

I wear the nylon suits.  They still fade but last.  One pair I have had for 1  1/2 years and although big on me now (alright!), they are just faded.  I rinse them out in the shower after swimming and throw them in the dryer with my towel.  they get washed once a week.

x2
Except mine hardly ever made it in the house during school, always left my bag in the car. Nothing like having to put your suit in the pool to unfreeze it, before you put it on in the morning for a 5am practice. Got to love Wisconsin winters. As the suits got bad, just threw on a newer suit underneath and used the bad suit as a drag suit.

I think I'd much rather shell out $25 every six months than having to futz around like that. You are a more inspired person than I.

don't know if female suits are made of the same stuff (I will assume so), I've rinsed mine out every time and every so often it goes in the wash.  Hang dry.  Mine's going on 5 years!!!  I will admit, it's starting to get a little less "springy".
