FS Series
80F / 27C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 05m 41s
Overall Rank = 29/116
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 5/23
Pre-race routine:

Had breakfast and then road my bike to the race as it was in my neighborhood. First time for that.
Event warmup:

The 2.5 mile ride and then a 100 yard swim in the pool
Swim
  • 04m 49s
  • 250 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

The pool swim was bizzare. The lanes were narrow and you had to swim up and back in each. The two people in front of me were...SLOW!!! The guy immediately in front would not wasit at the wall even after I tapped himn 4 times. I caught him in the 3rd length. I could not pass mid-lane due to the narrow lanes. His girl friend (2 in front) yielded at the wall during the 6th length. I stood up at one point and shrugged my arms as I could keep up with him WALKING at the rate he was swimming. Had to have cost me at least a minute and probably more. That was more than enough to cost me a podium spot in my AG. I honestly could have been 1st in my AG but for this.
What would you do differently?:

Drown the slow people in front of me who obviously submitted bogus times!
Transition 1
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

Considering the distance from the pool to the transition area I am very pleased with this. 4th in AG and 14th OA
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 29m 58s
  • 10 miles
  • 20.02 mile/hr
Comments:

I ride this course all the time. It is very hilly and they are NOT rolling hills. Good use of the small chain ring is crucial. I enjoyed it.
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

Could have been a little faster getting to my rack and getting running shoes on. 12th in AG and 73rd OA
Run
  • 28m 42s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

My run is still noy where I would like it. I cannot maintain the pace I want for the entire distance.
What would you do differently?:

Train more and lose weight.

Frustrating about the swim but it sounds like a good day for the rest. That is why I try to avoid the pool swim tris but you kinda have to do the one in your neighborhood eh! :-)

Nice work...sucks that it has come to the point that you have to lie about your pool splits during entry just so you don't have to deal with this.  I guess that means that you just keeping faster in the pool!

Next time pull his jersey over his head and take care of him like "Old time Hockey"  Laughing

Gosh that is super annoying about the swim!  Good news is you now need to seed yourself much faster.  Great bike split on that hilly course!   The run will come, Doug, 5th in AG is AWESOME!

Good job overall.  Hate it about the swim.  How much time did it costs you if you had to guess?  Still, a back yard race...nice!

The guy that "won"  my AG was 3rd OA so apparently I was 4th in AG according to how they do it. Now that pool swim is really bugging me (Let it go now {voice in my head}).

Doug, great race. I avoid pool tri's for the very reason of idiots like the guys in front of you who put in bogus times. You pulled off a great race, congrats! Did you do a shindig afterwards. If I lived closer, I might have crashed that. Keep up the good work.
