I hear you.  I enjoy playing softball...but GOD...if every batter stepped out of the box, and every pitcher stepped off the rubber to go for the rosin bag between pitches I'd walk off the field.

I'll follow baseball on Sportscenter, and I can name every world series champion in the past 2 decades...but I don't think I've watched and entire baseball game from start to finish in about 8 years.  It's simply mind numbing.

I mean sheesh...we can play 7 inning games in 55 minutes...and the score is like 12-10.  How on earth does a 3-2 baseball game last 3+ hours.

Bear, pssssst, you do realize that the Browns are from Cleveland which is in Ohio. You know, the same Browns that smacked the "Aints around last Sunday!

People accuse cricket of boring, but baseball is 1000 times worse!
American football doesn't interest me, it has no continuity.
Football is awesome, rugby (union) is more so. Rugby league is terrible.

 

Yes, the Cleveland Browns. Four winning records in the last twenty years. Last playoff win, 1994. Never been to a Super Bowl (except as a euphemism for using the toilet).Those guys. Really inspire a love for the sport.

Yes, on any given Sunday where the Browns punter out rushed the Aints. And although the Browns are horrible and have been for a while, please don't compare their history with the Aint's. Their one magical year was great, but that is all it was, one year.

P.S. - I am not a Browns fan at all.

Actually, it's been a pretty good five or six. I would argue that no professional sports franchise has meant more to a community, to the whole state, than the Saints have since 2005. Goes beyond football, beyond won-loss records.


Add to that two BCS championships in the past decade, and you can see why football is viewed as the better sport in this state. Even with LSU's history in the college world series.

And, as I stated earlier, I can see why in your state you feel different.

Now excuse me while I go take the Browns to the Super Bowl.

Not since the 30s and 40s, if at all. Which demonstrates exactly what it is: my grandfather's game.

Aints record the last 6 years is 49-47!

All time record vs. Cleveland is 4 - 12!

Evidently you didn't comprehend part of my post. I bolded it for the reading-impaired. There were a few mitigators for the 3-13 season in 2005 that you're counting. I'd be glad to inform you of those, since you appear to lack that knowledge.

BTW, part of that overall record is against the team now called the Baltimore Ravens.

If you insist on adding in the Ravens the Aints are 5-15! The Brownies have 37 winning season while the Aints have a dismal 9.

Yet football in this state, in large part because of the Saints, is viewed as the "better" sport. Where Ohio football is viewed as suckage. (We haven't even touched on the Ohio State's title as "Most Overated Team of the Decade")

Must be that whole "Goes beyond football, beyond won-loss records" thing that you continue to ignore.

The Browns have how many Super Bowl wins ? ok, I'll make it ez'er.. how many trips to Super Bowl ?

Bear, I think it is funny how THE Ohio State University gets under your skin. Ease up Tiger! Again please don't rest on one magical season. The Aints are showing their true colors this year. You may view football in that state as better, but I would totaly disagree. Keep in mind, you still have a Michigan man as your brilliant coach.

I got hooked on watching footy when I was in Australia a couple of years ago.  Similar to American football but without the 5 minute pauses between plays.

I'm with Prince, soccer above all else.  I am a huge college football fan though. 
I understand soccer is hard to follow, especially if you haven't played it.  There aren't many sports where 95% of the coaching is done in practice.  The only real time during a pro game where the coach will do something is make a substitute.  Sure, lack of goals, but doesn't that make it more amazing when a goal is scored?  I am just saying if I had to pick between my favorite soccer team playing a regular season match or my favorite football team playing a regular season match, against similar teams.  I think I'd have to go for soccer, but it is close. 

Another note, I HATE that they call it the WORLD series or call the superbowl winner the WORLD champions.  I think there should be a world cup for every sport.

Well, technically, the winner of the super bowl is the world champion of american professional gridiron.  Because no one outside the US plays it .  It's just bastardized rugby after all - most of the rest of the world would rather play the real thing - or the other forms of bastardized rugby (CFL, Aussie rules, soccer)

Baseball is different, lots of countries play that.

In the 1600s ball sport games not played with sticks advanced the ball with a kick or a scrum.
By the 1750s, they were playing what eventually would be rugby.
Not until the 1800s was there a split - people either liked to play in the Rugby School way, or just with the feet.
Then you had the Rugby Union and Rugby League split with their different rules...
