I recently updated my 310XT to firmware 3.0 and ever since then the footpod isn't working. The device still recognizes it but when I'm running on a treadmill the speed is WAY off. I realize that the  footpod and treadmill won't be perfect but the treadmill says I'm running 9:00/mile and the 310xt says I'm doing 30:00/mile. I run a lot indoors over the winter and like the convince of downloading the workouts. Any ideas what might be wrong or what I can do?

Is the foot pod really supposed to work on a treadmill?  I would imagine it would not.

It did previously.  Why would you think it wouldn't?

I believe the treadmill is exactly what the footpod was intended for.

It should work. I got my GF one and it works fine for her. She uses it with a 305.

Do you just need to recalibrate it?  Or did you try that already?

I've had one for the past couple of months and never calibrated it for distance/speed.  I only used it to count cadence because my coach wanted me to work on running  cadence.  It always says I'm about 20-30 sec faster a mile when on the tready but just use the treadmill speed for inside and gps for outside recording so never bothered to actually set it up.  Sounds like it may have wiped your settings or something.

I never calibrated it but it was always close enough ( ie the 5-10 sec per mile diff between the two).  Now one (the treadmill) thinks I'm running and the other (footpod) thinks I'm walking.

I use a Suunto footpod and it also gives somewhat different readings on a treadmill vs. running, but not that drastically off.  And I suspect some of the error is inaccuracy in the treadmill itself, to be honest.  (But that's clearly not your problem as you'd know if you were actually going 2 mph).

If you haven't yet, you might try unpairing and then re-pairing the footpod--there might be some residual glitch based on old pairing settings with the new firmware.

Otherwise, I'd say calibrate to the treadmill, or check with Garmin customer support and see what they say.

As a possible point of reference, I got my footpod about a year ago to use with an older (circa 2006) Suunto T3.  It seemed to record distance and pace just fine, except that the autolap function measured the distance in miles but then calculated the pace for the lap as thought it were a kilometer (so it was figuring the time it took to run 1 mile and then dividing by .62 miles (or something like that), so the lap pace was way off).  Obviously a software glitch in the watch.  Suunto wound up sending me a new T3D and a new footpod, which now work fine together.

usually with firmwear updates all the settings get reset or screwed up.

this goes for all my HR zones, power ftp, workouts etc.

reset the watch and recalibrate the footpod, there is also a chance the battery is not working well.  i used the footpod for about 1 year with fr60 it should be very close actually withing .5 or a mile.
