Games of Acadiana
80F / 27C
Sunny
Total Time = 42m 29s
Overall Rank = 18/146
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 1/7
Pre-race routine:

Wake at 4:30, coffee and cliff bar, shower, pack, out the house for 5:30. got to race, set up transition area, visited with a few friends then went to warm up.
Event warmup:

Jogged 1/2 mile, then rode the run route.
Swim
  • 03m 33s
  • 200 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

Nothing extraordinary here, swam freestyle the whole way, could have turned better, could have pushed harder. Unlike last year, didn't pass anyone and no one passed me.
What would you do differently?:

Slightly faster than last year, but didn't exhaust myself.
Transition 1
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

First transition with shoes on the bike and no socks. Missed on the mount, took a couple tries to get my foot square on the shoe to get over. After I was on the bike, no problem getting into shoes and up to speed.
What would you do differently?:

Need more practice on the mount.
Bike
  • 21m 46s
  • 8.25 miles
  • 22.74 mile/hr
Comments:

Went hard on this, was over 23 the entire course, over 24 for a good bit of it. Too many turns to have a great average though.

Passed dozens of riders, especially on the second loop. Lots of kids and mountain bikes all over the course.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 00m 46s
Comments:

Everything went well.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 15m 28s
  • 2 miles
  • 07m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

Red-lined the whole way, up to the point of incurring a side stitch. Very hot by this time, even though it's only 8am.

Closest I've come to tossing the cookies in a race, took me several minutes to settle things down after finish.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I'm not going to be faster than this in these conditions.
Post race
Warm down:

After catching my breath, walked back to the transition to pack my stuff. Drove to the 'dome and visited with people until they handed out the awards. I got the second place medal in my AG, though the standings this morning show I was first.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat, turns on the bike, swimming speed, but this wasn't a bad performance for me.

Event comments:

Good event for a great cause. Short course makes it good for first-timers as well as thouse who want to blow it out and hurt for 40 minutes or so.

Great report, Bear.  I'll say it again...Holy crap! You are FAST!!!  Glad you didn't toss your cookies.  It really was hot as hell out there.   You didn't mention your 2nd place AG finish though!  Congrats and hope to be out there with you for Cajunman (still waiting...)

At the awards I got the second place medal for my AG, looking at the standings this morning I see where I was first. Got a call into the RD to see what the scoop is.

I haven't even read the report yet... or the standings... but I'm going to guess this... you placed, right??? You must have... A fast swim... a Blazing bike (22 mph... Holy crap!) and a...a.... I don't remember your run times, but I remember they were fast... Don't want to cheat and look right now... because I'm apparently playing a little game with myself here...

Anyway, CONGRATULATIONS on one heck of a race... If you didn't win anything (but I suspect you did!) I'll send you something. You deserve a medal...a cookie....a platter.... something. Nice work bear. You rock.

Sub 8 minute miles.  You're my hero.

I read the report... I'm not sure how you'd do better than first either... (!!!)

Yeah awesome run.  Pushing hard enough to get almost to puke stage.  That is discipline, or motivation....
