There's a 10K race we do every year, where a guy brings his dachshund, and wears a t-shirt that says (on the back) "Yep. You were just passed by a wiener dog!" Last year, Eric finished just behind the guy and went over to chat with him. While they were both huffing and puffing and speaking in two-word phrases, the dog was bouncing around, jumping and acting like he wanted to go again. |

Regular 93 Knoxville, TN | Subject: RE: Dog runs 1/2 marathon My boxer ran a 5k with me a few years ago...she was one of about 3 dogs...she wore my bib number on her pink bandana and timing chip on her collar....she loved it. I was surprised (and it was approved to have dogs participate as long as they start in the back of the pack) several ppl scolded me for having her run "that far"...3 miles are you kidding me? These were ppl that we were passing so whatever... Dogs are meant for moving...I love to see ppl out running with their dogs.... |

They'd really hate my wife then, who just a few weeks ago took our dog on an 18-miler. Sure the dog konked out right after they got home, but a short dog-nap later and she was chasing our other dog around the house again as usual! Plus she took her on the first 10 miles of her 20-miler yesterday. Our dog loves it and yips/whines/begs/wags/jumps on my wife every morning when she can sense a run coming up! The only reason she went on the first 10 miles instead of the last 10 miles is because my wife thought that if she left without her that she might start barking and wake the whole house up to show her discontentment |

Same here, prior to injuries (mine, not his), my beagle regularly joined me for my runs, including the longer ones getting up over 13 miles, and he still found the energy when we got home to get into trouble. |

Champion 34263 Chicago | Subject: RE: Dog runs 1/2 marathon My Aussie/Shepherd mix used to run and run and run sometimes as long as 10 miles or so. The yellow lab? Not so much. She'd sit down after about three and be all `I'm done. See ya.' And I'd have to walk her back to the car before finishing my run. |

Extreme Veteran 605 | Subject: RE: Dog runs 1/2 marathon As with people, if the dog is in shape and ready for the run why not? After all there are things like the Iditarod where sled dogs race over 1100 miles in 9 to 15 days, slow ones are doing over 70 miles a day and the fast ones over 120 miles. All while pulling someone part of the time. The fastest finisher was in 8 days 19 hours and 46 minutes. That's faster than a 12 minute per mile pace for the whole race, including rest periods. |

Master 1584 Fulton, MD | Subject: RE: Dog runs 1/2 marathon I can't imagine anyone getting mad about a dog running 3.1 miles - my lab does that several times a week. I commented on the Dozer story over on the main board. The race he "ran" started 0.1 miles from my house. When I finished, I was walking home and saw him go by around mile 12.5 to 12.8. I actually tried to catch him, as it was clear he wasn't with anyone, but he avoided me and I was too tired to chase him. I'm glad I missed, he has since raised over $4k for cancer research. http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=252876&posts=10&start=1 |

Pro 5361 | Subject: RE: Dog runs 1/2 marathon I run with my Border Collie every day. He's in great shape and has no problem going 15 miles or more. Provided that there are a few pond stops along they way for him to get a drink and cool down. He's a photo of Ben beating me in a local 10K race. He won.
