Subject: What is your bike doing when you're not riding it?
This a question that was was shamelessly stolen from the latest Bicycling mag. I started laughing out loud at the smart responses as I was commuting on the subway.

Here's a couple samples:
1) She howls and moans all night long. Finally at about 5:00AM I surrender and go riding.
2) I like bicycling mags. My bike reads People magazine

My response:
She grumbles all night and all day until I finally come in to the garage to go riding. Sometimes she plays hard to get by deflating one of her tires or throws my riding gloves into a corner to delay the ride.

WHAT DOES YOUR BIKE DO WHEN YOU'RE NOT RIDING?

(side note) Drew I love your avatar. (end note)

Superfuzz and I joke that anytime our bikes are racked together they're going to reproduce and have little tricycles. That just brings to mind bike sex, which is just a funny mental image. Soon as you open the door they act like nothing is going on. Considering his is a 54' black Felt and mine is a Reubanesque 59' red/silver Raleigh...I wonder what the kids would look like.

As soon as they see me putting on my riding shoes they start yelling ME ME ME ME ME!

My Specialized Epic would be teasing the Trek 8500 for having to stay at home a again.
Little does she know I have a race this weekend so I will be taking the 8500 because she is the race machine, and when we get home she also gets to keep the medals.

My GT mtn bike and QR take their rest propped up in my dining room. One is usually out while the other stays in. The homebound bike spends quality time with the cat who like to use her imagination while jumping through the cranks and frame, often leaving behind some fur on the chain and gaining a nice grease spot on her back.

When together, the two of them quarrel over which one of them I like best. It goes something like this:
"She bought me brand new from the LBS...you're an eBay purchase".
"Well, at least I have a bike computer."
"I don't need any gadgets, my fat tires and rugged build can get me through ANYTHING".
"Yeah...but how fast, fatso? Oh wait, she wouldn't even know because you don't have a computer!"
"At least I get to go to work with her and spend my days people watching in the parking lot. You have to stay here all day with the critters."
"I like the dog...the cat IS a bit annoying. Well, you don't get to go out on the long rides in the country...when's the last time you saw a cornfield?"
"Cornfield shmorfield...I can hop logs and go over rocks. And, I have front wheel suspension."
"Yeah, well, I have aero bars and a butterfly tri saddle for a comfortable ride."
"When you're off road you don't spend THAT much time in the saddle stupid."

And on they go. Like an old married couple...

I commute faithfully with my mtn.bike all the time and we sometimes spend time together in the evenings and weekends too. Somehow though something is missing. I don't think my bike suspects but I've been surfing web sites that show newer, slimmer bikes. I can't help looking. I've even been into some of "those" stores, and not to buy stuff for my current bike either. I'm so confused!

Dress up like women and sing show tunes (see earlier post!)

Actually I think they sit around and make fun of me in my tri/bike gear

I think mine sits in the garage next to my motorcycle, sticking out its bike computer teasingly chanting "I'm ridden more than yooouuu, nyah nyah!" as my motorcycle sits there covered in a light layer of dust seething...
Seriously, I've put more miles on my bicycle this year than my motorcycle.

my bike is currently drowned

but it used to be laid back and just watch the goings on in my house silently knowing that it was the prettiest thing in the room.

My Kestrel is sitting pretty when I'm looking, and when I'm out at class (on my old Schwinn Cruiser, no less) she's busy plotting my demise with the bird. Jealous girls, those two. They're thick as thieves, I tell you. The Kestrel sings when we go out though, it's glorious.

It's moping while it balances in the work stand, saying " you promised to clean me asap, you said you would clena the chains".  That's why I keep it out in the garage......I know, I'm cruel.

Do you feel bad when you get a new bike and retire the old one...I'm kinda feeling that way...what am I going to do with old blue when a new ride gets bought.?
