Total Time = 1h 27m 37s
Overall Rank = 53/91
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 2/3
Pre-race routine:

2 Nights of tent camping with hubby and our two dogs. Friday night I got almost no sleep, but Saturday night was better. Up at 7am. Bowl of cereal and a banana. Made coffee, but I didn't have time to drink it. :-(
Event warmup:

Should have be at the transition area earlier. They closed transition very soon after I got there for the pre-race meeting. No run or bike warmup. Spent a lot of time standing around (almost an hour) in the wetsuit waiting for our wave to start. COLD, windy, . . . burrrrr.
Swim
  • 12m 7s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 13s / 100 yards
Comments:

Took plenty of time to get in the water and get used to the water temp. Started out strong, but probably too fast. It was really choppy for the first part of the swim. When I tried to slow down and regulate my breathing, I took a big GULP of water. Cough Cough Cough. At that point I noticed Lori behind me and she was in the middle of a full-blown panic attack. Waited for her and swam with her until we rounded the first buoy. Didn't feel good until about 1/2 way through the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Start out slower. Maybe not wait for someone else, but it seemed like the right thing to do, and I'm glad I did. I was the one who talked her into racing today. Lori took 1st in our ag today and I took 2nd. She is a great runner.
Transition 1
  • 02m 49s
Comments:

Took a little extra time to slip on a long-sleeved shirt. It was cold, cloudy and rainy today.
What would you do differently?:

Might consider cutting just a little length off the wetsuit and see if it comes off easier. This was the second race where it was stuck.
Bike
  • 37m 1s
  • 11 miles
  • 17.83 mile/hr
Comments:

Happy with the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Didn't look at any data during the race. Kind of wish I would have pushed it a little harder so my avg. was over 18 mph.
Transition 2
  • 01m 56s
Comments:

It was raining, so my running shoes and socks were inside a plastic bag. Probably added an extra 5 seconds! LOL
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 33m 46s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

My run is still slow, but it's coming along. Thought about my mg while I was out there and how much encouragement and support they have given me. Thanks!!!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I enjoyed the run and had a little go left over at the end. It was a great way to end my first season of triathlon.
Post race
Warm down:

Put on multiple layers of clothing and try to warm up. Food, water, stretch, repeat.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

experience

Event comments:

Loved this race and will do it again next year. Will secretly hope for better weather. :-) Got some very cool bling.

So you talked this Lori person into the race, waited for her during the swim and she repays you by winning your AG?  Sounds like you should've kicked her in the head.

Great race to end the season!  Congrats on finishing the run without stopping; that will be one of my goals for next year.

Great job!  Way to keep running, and I think stopping to help your friend was perfect!

And that time, after camping?  Nice.

Great job Jayne!  You set a goal of not walking on the run and delivered it!  The skies the limit when you put your mind to it.

Next time beat your friend out of the water and she if she can catch up to you.....bet not!
