I love to train, day in and day out. Although I love it more when I toe the line and you have that ball of nervousness in your gut. There's no other time of feeling "in the moment" other then when your 30 seconds away from the start.

Love racing, training-not as much. However, I'm not a "racer" either, I just like to participate, not compete.

Mixed feelings .........

I like the feeling of a good training day, hate the feeling of bad ones!

I am ultra competitive .... one of my faults (or strengths depending on the situation). So if I almost always need to race. But if I am not doing well in the racing I hate it. If you look at my marathon RR from Oct. for my only marathon you can see that.

I used to race two sometimes three days a week when I was a USCF racer. After years of that I just got so burned out (and my performance was seriously falling off because of life and lack of motivation) I just quit the sport completely. Not a good place to be .......

Hate training, love racing.  Although I don't really "race".  I just have my own goals to accomplish and none of those ever include placing in my AG.

Like training......LOVE RACING..... I am very motivated by other athletes and just love being in that environment where everyone is so excited, motivated and working so hard.....and it's such a great feeling when you cross the finish line...

I like both for different reasons. There is nothing better than a Long Run in the country when its nice and quiet with just a bit of fresh snow on the ground. And what about the endorphins during training!

As for racing, I also love the rush 30 seconds before the start! And the feeling of passing people on the bike. I run so slow that I wouldn"t know the feeling of passing somebody on the run!

Purely trainer.  I never race.  I have gotten so slow that my version of running or biking or swimming no longer qualifies as a competitive sport.  No need to get up way early on a Saturday or Sunday morning to have a bunch of grannies and granddads tell me I'm "Lookin' good" as they speed past.  I still enjoy hearing about others' racing exploits though.

I love training and also love training, but they're a few seconds that I love racing. At the final sprint of a race where you still have the capacity to beat your fellow racer!

I'm a trainer.

I race the swim, the rest I just try to get through as quickly as possible. But I'm working on changing that with my running training.

I race to train.

I really did enjoy the two races I did last season, and I'm looking forward to next.  I need the races as motivators to train consistently.  My goal is to be a solid MOPr.

Definitely a trainer, races are just a carrot to train, training is just a tool so I can eat what I want when I want to...and drink beer!

Love training, but love racing even more.  Nervous excitement at the start of a race, like you are going to jump out of your skin, but I especially like the feeling of pushing my body to the limit and then finding out that I can push past that limit (if that makes any sense)

I love racing. I don't mind training, but without having races scheduled, I usually lack the motivation to train consistently.

Well I have only done one race, but I love to train and race. Training has always been a huge destressor for me which helps me stay grounded. My wife can tell if I have worked out or not the minute I walk in the door. I loved the one race I was in b/c it allowed me to push myself even harder due to the competition. I finished last in my age group but had a blast. I plan on doing many more races not to win but to get better each and every time.

Training is means to perform better for my one true love: competition! i only train alone right now and i'm interested to see how much more i enjoy training with groups in the future, but nothing will ever take away the love of the race.

I enjoy training and would happily train without ever doing a race.  I was already doing, or planning to start, each of the three sports separately before I conceived of doing them together in a tri.  However, though I've only done a couple of events so far, my training is definately more focused before a race.  I wouldn't call myself competitive, and my speed doesn't support competition with anyone besides myself, but I also enjoy trying to do my personal best when in a race.  To answer the question: maybe a little of both.

I love both but the one thing I ate about racing is the day or week before leading up to the race. You have all your friends and some people have family and the night before you're like........hey, you want to go out for some spaghetti and a water and then come back and go to bed at 9:00. I wish I could just be at the starting line b/c I love race day.

Well like Jim's dad in American Pie said, It's like hitting a ball against a wall, it's fun, but it is more fun to have someone else there.  I wouldn't train if I couldn't race!

Exactly - without the race as a goal (and to test my progress) it becomes too easy to just sleep late.

Training makes me feel good day in and day out.

The anticipation, adrenaline, excitement, and comradarie of race day are great a few times a year.
