Age Group Rank = 9/12
Pre-race routine:

Got up had toast with honey, drove to race site
Event warmup:

Got my timing chip and tried to stay warm. it was not particularly cold, but it was windy 15-20mph
Run
  • 1h 00m 36s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

Plan was to run 10:30ish first two miles and then start to speed up a bit each mile over the next 4 miles. That didn't happen. I was running what I thought was easy, but was at 9:30ish pace as the race started. Thought about slowing down, but decided to go with it, as the pace seemed ok. Did well for the first four and half miles. I then accidentally dropped the pace to about 9:00 while trying to go up a small hill. Overcooked the HR and had to take a short walk break to bring the HR back down. Got running again, but my pace was now up to 10ish. Came off the trails and back onto the pavement at about mile 6. It was all I could do to hang on to the finish. seemed like it kept getting further away with every step...
What would you do differently?:

Watch my pace a bit more while going up hill. Had a maintained a more even pace there at 4.5 miles, I think I might have been able to shave off the 40 seconds I needed to break an hour...
Post race
Warm down:

Try to breathe... walk around a bit, stretch calves against phone pole

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of run base

Event comments:

Nice run for a good cause!
