Subject: Big Race This Year?

This thread may have come and gone, but I have been out of touch for quite a while.

What are you working towards as your big race in 2012?

I really like to hear what my fellow residents of Ontario are planning and why.

I love travelling to do tri s and doing the local events i've done for twenty years.

My big races are IM Tremblant and Savageman.  I have a hate on for the hills and want to beat them up as much as they've beaten me up.  I was supposed to do Savageman this year but ripped a miniscus and that was that.

Tremblant brings me back to the best French Onion Soup I have ever had at Le Shack at the top of the village. When I finish I am going to drown myslef in that soup.

Savageman is a must. I simply must have a brick with my name on it in some backwater Appalachian town where gravity does not seem to bother the local folk.

I am from Ottawa so i am also hoping to do Smith Falls, Meech Lake (hope it's back), Carleton Place, Brockville  and the Canadian...something shorter than HIM. We'll see how it all comes together.

My time goal.  Simple. Whatever beats my younger brother. I like the 10-20 minute buffer.  Makes for great conversations around the Thanksgiving table in October!

Cheers

I'm working towards IMWI in September.   I'm a little afraid of the hills and what my pace will be on the bike.  Ideally, I would like to beat my time from Florida in 2010 on a much harder course.  I'm having a bit of regret for signing up for WI instead of FL when I found out a lot of my "BT" friends from the 2010 training thread are doing it again.  Oh well.

Before IMWI, my season will include the woodstock tri (it starts like 2.5 km from my house, how can I not do it?), Guelph Olympic, considering WIBA (sp?  training even on the IMWI course) and Peteborough.

Me, my goal this year is IMLP.

But before that, there will be woodstock tri as well and Mt Tremblant 70.3.

After Lake Placid ??? It's too blury from now...

Happy training !!

I signed up for IMMT and also for the HI in June. Why MT?  I figured it was going to be easier to get a spot in IMMT than in IMLP. I will do a couple of sprints and/or olys that are close to my home, but I haven't decided which ones yet. I'm also tempted close the season with 70.3 Miami at the end of Oct.

Cheers

I started at the end of the season last year and did the Guelph II sprint.

This year I plan on finishing the year doing the Half Iron distance Canadian!

2012 will start off with a half marathon (mississauga half), a couple sprints (victoria, milton, guelph lakes), a few olympic distances (Muskoka, Niagara, and possibly Toronto Island) and then the Canadian Half. Smile

Hopefully I can keep my body in good shape and prevent any injuries.

Sounds like a busy summer!  Good luck but just FYI - Niagara and Toronto Island are sprints - not olys.  Somersault has some late summer olys you may want to check out.

As long as my body allows it I have my eye on the Welland Half Iron duathlon and the Muskoka Long Course duathlon as my "A" races. The Victoria Duathlon would be a "B" race for me but I have dreams of finishing in the top 25 (not easy to do).

I'm considering the Olympic at Wasaga for an A race.

The Sprint at Guelph I will also be an A race for this year, just due to a personal challenge with friends.

apparently i spoke too soon. muskoka long course is dead, and i have little to no interest in doing the 5150.

winter_mute, the wasaga olympic is awesome - if it didn't require an overnight stay (or getting up at 2am), i'd do it every year!

cheers!

I was planning to make a weekend of Wasaga.  Make it a "destination" race.

My daughter would love the swimming afterwards, but I'm not sure if I'd be in any shape to chase her through the waves...

i did exactly that in 2010 - my dad offered my husband and i a free stay with him at a resort in collingwood, so who could refuse? mini golfed 18 holes post-race, too! Laughing

cheers!

I'm doing MT 70.3 and IMC. I am seriously considering Muskoka 5i50 in between the two as well.Did the Wasaga Oly this year and highly reccommend it. Would definitely be going back if I weren't doing IMC 2 weeks before.

IM Florida in November is my A race. Probably some other races as warm ups during the summer.

Need to practice the open water swims.

Hey Fellow Ontario people.

I am planning on my First HIM distance race this year REV3 Cedar point with my training buddy and good friend. I know she knows what she is doing and this will be my first.

Through the summer though my other Main race will be the Leamington Tomato man Sprint. It was my first sprint distance race in 2011 and needless to say As a newbie I let it beat me up too much. I have something to go back and prove to that damn course. It owes me a good swim and a run. Well I owe to me to not do things stupid...lol

I am sure I will look at  a few other Sprints and I have already signed up for the Detroit Half Marathon. It was my first HM in 2011..

All the best to everyone racing this year. I am back on the work out band wagon after slacking for 2 months.

I'll probably aim for Milton in June and Lakeside or Wasaga in Sept as my A races.  The goal for the year is to win my AG, so I want to race something I've done before so I know what it'll take.

I'll sprinkle a pile of races in between (Tomatoman, Welland, Niagara, Cobourg, Toronto, maybe one of the Guelph Lakes).

AHARE: You were FAST at Lakeside!

Definitely will be racing Lakeside again this year, also Guelph Lake, and thinking very hard about St. Joseph's Island.

For me 2011 went from the highest high (Alcatraz Challenge) to the lowest low (two injuries + pneumonia = 1 DNF, 1 DNS, and one full sprint-distance race where I had a terrible swim and let that get to me for the entire race.)

For 2012 I wanted to come out guns-ablazin, set a new HM PR, do several sprints, PR at all of them, and complete my first oly. Now, I just want to be able to train. I almost don't even care about the races - I just want to be able to go for a run when I feel like going for a run!

I may still attempt an oly at some point if I can get the training in. I would very much like some sort of audacious goal just to keep the excitement factor up (Alcatraz did that for me last year) but I am worried about overdoing it and winding up sidelined again.

I made a change to my schedule.

I am going to Halifax to compete in Iron Dartmouth.

The price and the trip down east could not be passed over.

Looks like a beautiful course and I have never been to Nova Scotia. All thr fresh seafoodand beer doesn't hurt either.

I just hope it serves my plan to do IM Tremblant . Pacing.
