Pro 4277 Parker, CO | Subject: Backed-up Toilet all this discussion about the showering before entering the pool got me thinking about something that happened over the weekend. On Christmas day a guest at our house plugged-up one of our toilets. I know who it was with 99.9% certainty but SHE did not say anything after spending 20-minutes in the bathroom. Anyway, I have been unfortunate enough to have this happen to me a time or two but I have always either fixed the problem or asked the home owner for a plunger. So COJ...what would you do? |

Master 1929 Midlothian, VA | Subject: RE: Backed-up Toilet Oh, I'd totally call them out on it too. "Betty, are you feeling okay? I see by the fact that you just completely clogged up my toilet that you are having some kind of intestinal issues. Do you need some pepto? Immodium? Metamucil? Would you like me to demonstrate how the rest of society uses a plunger to deal with such mishaps?"

Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: Backed-up Toilet Ewww, she just left it and didn't say anything?! Was there a plunger in the bathroom? I had this happen to a guest of mine once - because we didn't keep a plunger in the guest bathroom. That changed quickly. |

Pro 6520 Bellingham, WA | Subject: RE: Backed-up Toilet First of all, to just do nothing and leave it to someone else to discover is very wrong. Especially if the toilet flapper happens to hang up and water continues to flow. I have seen this happen a few times and it can cause extensive damage. If I was at someone's house and I plugged it. I'd look around the bathroom for a plunger and give it an attempt myself. If I could not resolve it, I'd let the homeowner know that my son had just plugged his toilet. |

We don't keep a plunger in the bathroom (never would), so I hope my guests would ask. I can't imagine plugging it like that! Certainly in the case of too much T.P or something wrong with the flushing mechanism, but WOW. |

This falls perfectly in line with something at my house this morning. I went into our second bath (son's main bathroom...he's about to turn 13) to take a shower; as I was in there I noticed the toilet paper roll was empty. BUT, on the empty roll was a question, "What would MacGyver do?" Priceless humor. |

Pro 4277 Parker, CO | Subject: RE: Backed-up Toilet Looks like all the COJ's so far would do the right thing. My wife would kill me if I called this person out on it otherwise I would. To be fair, maybe she did not realize it as the water did not overflow...things just got stuck. But I can't imagine not noticing...especially with the amount of time she spent in there. I don't even take that long to shower and all my other business. Oh, and there is not a plunger in that bathroom but we have 2 other bathrooms fully equipped. Guess I'll stop at Home Depot and get another one. |

The VERY FIRST NIGHT we were there, I clogged the toiler. WOW. I was so embarrased! He had to go wake her up, to ask for a plunger. He was so sweet and told her HE clogged the toilet. I knew he was a keeper then. |

Master 2277 Lake Norman, NC | Subject: RE: Backed-up Toilet Oh the answer to this one is EASY! If it's me - I unclog the toilet, clean up and move on. Believe it or not, I actually carry a plunger around in the storage trunk of the van for just such an emergency in case the homeowner doesn't have one easily found. *siiiiiiiiiiiiigh* The life of a BFD.

Elite 4547 | Subject: RE: Backed-up Toilet I'm rarely if ever going to drop a deuce somewhere that's not my own bathroom...but, if it was me, and I knew I didn't sufficiently plunge the toilet myself, I would tell the homeowner in a discreet manner that, "Houston, we have a problem!" Seriously, this topic made me laugh Ray. About a month ago I had a massive toilet problem. Not only was it plugged, there was a leaky tank gasket! The water kept coming in, and the only place it could go in the bowl was up! I tried plunging but the plunger plain sucks so it wasn't holding the seal, and with vigorous plunging, crappola water was flying everywhere! It was to the point where I was running from the upstairs with a bathroom wastebasket filled with brown water to the downstairs dumping it into the functioning toilet. I went up and down 4 times...I eventually found the agar in the garage and went to work on the toilet...now if THIS had happened at your house, you'd be glad I told you right away! |

What are you people eating? It's not what we're eating - It's that some people don't shell out the coinage for a quality throne! They try and be all "green" with their low-water-use, BS, crappers that have no power. 4 squares of tp is all it takes to stop up some cheapy johns. Or you get the nimrods who decide to drop a brick in the tank of theirs. These things can't even handle a 48-pound, 7-year-old, deuce-and-a-half! No people. When it comes to the terlit, what you need is MORE POWER! And preferably some handicapped rails on the sides to get a good grip for some serious bracing when necessary. Pressurized water to tanks are preferable as well. You have to take this sh*t seriously! Here's what I have in my house: http://www.totousa.com/Neorest/Neorest600.aspx

Until I read this, I was content with the toilet situation in my home. Now I realize I must tear everything out and start from scratch. I have forwarded your note to my contractor, hoping to start work immediately. Until then, I have anchor mounted a couple of towel bars in lieu of the handicapped rail in case of an emergency. |
