Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 530. Had two bannanas and a PBJ. Drank some water. Got to sleep about 11 am due to the Greek fest and being excited

Swim
  • 06m 32s
  • 300 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

Got out of pool in 504 but walked to the transition because I wanted time to get my breath thinking I was going to have a fast transition. Passed by 3 people. One lady when I touched her leg to let her know I was going to pass did a blocking move. I am very pleased with my time I know I could have done faster if I jogged to transition.
What would you do differently?:

Run to transition, get tri shorts with a tie string. my bike shorts fell down and my wife has a pic of me shooting the moon.
Transition 1
  • 04m 27s
Comments:

This is the beginning of a long day. I had problems with the strap on my helmet. the strap come out of the buckle and I had trouble getting it back in.
What would you do differently?:

I went and bought a new helmet immediately after the race so that problem should be solved.
Bike
  • 1h 39m 12s
  • 15 miles
  • 9.07 mile/hr
Comments:

What can I say. I had problems get up and over the hills. I definitely need to work on this the next month. I thought this would be my second strongest event and I sucked. My brakes were rubbing on the run. I tried to adjust them but every time I put the brakes on they would start rubbing again,
What would you do differently?:

Immediately took the bike to the shop for a tune up. Lose more weight so I can handle the hills.
Transition 2
  • 01m 2s
Comments:

Went good. Had running shoes on for the bike so that did not make much of a difference.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 51m 38s
  • 3.12 miles
  • 16m 33s  min/mile
Comments:

By the time I got to the run. I was whooped. I did walk a lot and my time shows how tired I was.
What would you do differently?:

More brickss
Post race
Warm down:

Sretched. ate, went to the bike shop

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My weight, undertraining in last two months while job hunting, bike.

Event comments:

Not bad for first year race. Should get better

Nice job for your first tri Kevin. We are proud of you. You sure took care of some of your nemises right away. Good equipment in good repair is a big part of a good race. You now are a triathlete with a way to set new goals. You inspire me and make me feel that I can do my tri coming up in 3 (YIKES) weeks.

Congrats on your finish.

Kevin, that's what first races are all about.  You've learned about a few areas where you think you can improve and now you'll set about to make it so.  That's why there are soooo many races out there!  So we can kep tri'ing to get it right!  LOL

Congrats Triathlete Kevin!

It must be a relief to have the first one over with and done. Even though it was a challenge and you had some "wardrobe malfunctions" , you still persevered and finished. Hills suck, period, and I'm dreading having to get off my bike and walk at Penn Yan, because I feel like I have no granny gear on my bike (but it's really just my granny legs!).

And just think, if things had gone great, it would be harder to improve in the next one!

Thanks for sharing!
