3)  One more.  Whats up with the boat ramp on the way back from the swim?  Its mentioned on the course description but I see nothing on Google Earth.  Was it recently built?

you can't miss it. deffinalty not new. full concrete. it will be lined with green carpet from the in the water all the way into transition. in the boat ramp area swim all the till it is about 3 feet deep. it stays deep all the way to the shore.

Jason, are they moving the swim start upriver? I did the Oly last year, and it's only ~ 800 yds from the start we used (the "steps" that curve out into the river) to the boat ramp. The Oly swim passed the end of the boat ramp, then turned towards shore before turning again and heading  upriver for about 200 yds to the ramp. If it's a full 1.2 mile swim, it seems like lots of it will be against the current.

you will swim past the boat ramp like last year and then will take a left around the big orange ball you will be close to the bank and just out side of the small current. the route back is protected by the boat at the exit of the swim. I think it will be fine. the water from the damn will be shut off. so there will barely be any current.

Breaking news for got to mention this year we will not be entering from the steps. We will be leaving from a dock. can't remember which company sponsored the dock. but big plus.

Ahhh - the dam being off will make a huge difference - it was open last year and the current was fairly fast. The dock is great news, as those steps were a bit slick. I'm not doing the half, but will be back for the Oly  (and will finish it this year!).

Thanks JB for all the inside info.

I'm super-pumped. Coming down Thursday afternoon. I wanted to scope out the course and decide on wheels, gearing etc. Only 100+ people will keep the drafting down. Ironically, the last half-distance triathlon I did in the state of Ga (Augusta 70.3) was rainy too. I agree with above, hopefully no lightning. Sounds like race director has plans to at least cancel swim in that event. (Hope not, that's one reason I didn't do NOLA 70.3).
They may have to open the dam somewhat if it rains a bunch Friday. What do you think?

I assume the bike aid stations stocked with water as well as the CeraSport drinks?

Thanks,
Doc

of course the stations will be fully stocked with the norm plus sponsored gear.  also we will be good when it comes to the water level even if it rains and swim course support last year was great. i'm sure it will be there year as well.

I'm currently in my hotel unpacking gear.
Of course, I forgot my Garmin watch. At least I remembered my bike.

Anyone know if the run has mile markers?

Heading downtown to run part of the course in a few.

See Yall soon.

Jason, was that you in the pickup truck bed where we transitioned from the road back to the River Walk?

If so, that for the encouragement and for the encouragement.

Thanks again for the course report.  It was spot on.

Yeah, that was him. +1 on the race report, bike course was spot on.It was a fun race. I got a slight cut on my foot from a rock coming out of the boat ramp and didn't get to enjoy much of the run, but overall I'm happy. A turf further down on that ramp for next year would be great! Thanks to all staff and volunteers for putting together a great race!!Now time to heal up and get back at it again...

Not everyday the OA winner comes from the 45-49AG but the first two finishers from that AG are both Kona qualifiers..You can just never tell who's gonna show up..

Congrats to all who raced...

yeah that was me. sorry you got hurt bro. when we put the mats down yesterday the rive up and probably didn't factor that in. it will be adjusted for next year. maybe run the green carpet into the water.

I was so jealous that I was not outt here racing with you guys. I had to try and encourage people. I know that last lap people were saying they were gladd not to see me again. lol

not sure about results

Yeah, maybe not even turfin it all up, just sliding the green carpet into the water may do it...I'm sure next year it's gonna be even better overall. You should definately spell out course descriptions on their website or on the flyers to give away on the packets for future races, that stuff went a long way for race prep, lots of good info...
