That was very funny, thank you for sharing. Sorry you had such massive "train-brain", it's happens to the best of us but this was a whopper!

I've probably seen a few dozen times where a guy or girl will walk into the wrong locker room from the pool area. Some of them take longer than others to realize the mistake.

All the shower curtains at my gym have now been removed by the members on the off chance that such an event will occur again.

I have never been in any men's locker room, anywhere, ever, where they have had private shower stalls with curtains....especially at a budget place like a Y.

Ever.

I have had the exact opposite experience for what it's worth.  That being said I call "pics or it didn't happen"

So, if I see you posting a dozen shower curtains in the classifieds, I know where they are from, right??

I belong to two clubs and both have private showers. One has doors and the other curtains. The one with curtains is a budget type place.

The Rec center that I go to sometimes has nice cloth shower curtains.  Pretty stripes on them as well.  And when I first started going there for swim lessons the instructor told me that when it was first built the mens locker room and the womens locker room were switched.  Then she said that after the Rec center went under a remodel the Mens old locker room became the ladies room.  Don't know why it was changed, but now every time I go there I make a conscious effort to make sure the door I'm opening says "Women" with a picture of a stick figure wearing an A-line dress.

Pre-face: I am a girl, and this story is NOT made up.

Last weekend was cold and wet, and I decided to head to the YMCA for some treadmill and weights. After the work out I went to where I went so many times before – change room for a shower and to change into dry clothes.

Here is where it gets or so wrong: I’m in the shower, showering, and I hear this guy’s voice in the next shower yelling in Spanish “Caliente, caliente!” I panic: what is this guy doing in girls’ change room?? I take a quick peek: THEY ARE ALL GUYS!!!! OMG, I’M IN THE MENS’!!!!! I might have bonked after a 10-miler on the treadmill and half-an-hour of lifting weight, and went though a wrong door!!!! I was empty when I went in, but I did notice the showers were on the wrong side, so I though: “OH WELL, THEY RE-DECORATED”!!!!

My clothes neatly piled up on the bench 15 mitres away, and the only way to get to them was to walk though the entire shower area and the hair-blowers area NAKED. Ok, ladies, what would you do? I stayed in the shower for about 15 minutes, cried a little, and made a mental note, that THANK GOD I was not a guy stuck in the girls’ shower, can you imagine??

So, after the voices died down a bit, I decided to make a dash for it. I ripped the shower curtain, wrapped myself, and ran. There was a dude at the urinal, who did not turn around and a guy who was just walking in, who definitely saw me. I ran straight into the girls’ change room, straight into the shower, stood there for at least 20 minutes, just breezing, and hoping whoever saw me will ne recognize me with a hat and a hood on.

True story, but I won’t tell you which YMCA I went too, just in case you were there….

So what was your time? Where's the race report? Is this on MapMyRun???

I almost did this last weekend at my race in Singapore. I went in the wrong entryway (there was kind of a wooden screen in front) and was a few steps away from entering the men's group shower area (in an area with sinks and drinking water just outside) Can't blame it on "bonking" as it was only a 750m swim and 5k run, or oxygen debt from the race, as I was going in to shower after warming down and splashing around in the ocean for almost an hour. Maybe fatigue, or brain confused after all that running on the left side of the road. I seem to have bad directional karma with that country--in other races have variously looked for my bike, and the finish line, on the wrong side. At least, it being Singapore, I was redirected most politely!

I had this happen to me...well..something like this except sub out you, insert 60-ish y/o, 200+ lbs. woman. To make matters more interesting, she didn't bolt out of the shower wrapped up...nope...she strolled out of the shower wrapped in her towel, changed in front of about 8 of us, and then told us she uses the men's shower "because they get hotter and better water pressure"

How/why does she know this?!?!?!

Yea... as much as I want to believe this story on the mere "how hot is that" value, I think I'm calling BS too.  Way to many things that don't make sense.  Leaving your towel 10 meters away from the shower?  A Y with actual stalls and curtains? Going into the wrong room after a workout... where did you keep your shower stuff while working out... did you carry it around the gym with you?

a couple of years ago they overhauled our pool and it was closed for a month.  The womens changeroom became the family changeroom, the mens became the womens and the family became the mens.  As I'm sure you can imagine, there were a few instances of men walking into the women's room by mistake the first couple of weeks after it reopend.

When it re-opened they didn't have dividers in the showers yet or shower curtains.  One morning, I was showering, completely naked, and in walks a old guy.  It took a moment before either of us realized what was going on so he got to see it all.  I was mortified.  My husband thought it was hilarious.

I saw the old guy in the parking lot when I was leaving that day, and he complemented me on my body.  Gross or sincere?  I was kind of creeped out.  I would have prefered to pretend that nothing had happened.

Ok, for those who think it's BS: I mean: what kind of pictures would you like to see? Was I suppose to photograph myself crying naked the the bloodly shower? Or running though the urinals? WTF? And YES, the shower in Canadian Y's DO have plastic curtains. I did NOT have a towel with me in the shower, NO MAAM! It was all on the bench with the rest of my staff. And yes, I do carry my bag with me when I work out. And YES, I did run 10 Miles on TM, that was in my workout shedule, so I did it, why the big deal? This was a true story peeps. Believe it.

Um, yes. Why do you think they have mirrors in the bathrooms?
