I use ear drops after every swim.  Any pharmacy should carry them.  I think the brand I have at the moment is Auro-Dry.

Jump up and down with your head turned to one side when you are in the locker room after your swim.

Repeat for other side.

Its hit or miss for me...   90% of the time it never bothers me and then once in a while I feel it during the seim and its extremely annoying.   I can tell you from experience that the swim cap trick doesnt work though   Ear plugs are best option if its an ongoing issue.  The drops do work as I have had to use them from time to time.

I have my cap pulled down over my ears, and it doesn't help. Ear plugs are probably the way to go, but with the cap already over my ears, I feel like I don't hear much and I want to be able to hear what's going on around me.

I just shake my head...often while singing in my head, "I whip my hair back and forth I whip my hair back and forth I whip my hair back and forth..."

Thanks everyone! I do the head shake thing when it happens but it doesn't always do the trick and I feel spastic and like I am going to give myself a neck crick too. Embarassed

I will try the earplugs. Good to know about the drops also!

As a former competitive swimmer (high school, not anything serious), I can do a mean flip-turn when necessary.  yeah- it's faster.  But, I do nearly all my swimming with open turns due to the water in the ear thing.  Yes- a bathing cap pulled down over my ears helps a little.  I hate the ear plugs.

Same thing here.  I used to have the same problem, so I just started doing open turns.  Makes absolutely no difference in preperation for OWS.

Actually the reason I like the flip turn is cause it feels more acrobatic. More fun to do for me than an open turn. Its like an excuse to play like a kid and still have ppl think its just to be fasterWink

Yeah, I went back and put that in for those who were going to panties-wad about it (not the OP, the usual suspects)

Being in the pool makes water get in my ears, ear plugs help

The simple act of putting in ear plugs suddenly makes people who otherwise would ignore me suddenly have something to say-very interesting behavior; as soon as the second glob of silicon is in they want to start chatting!

I am somewhat hard of hearing as it is... at least now I will have an excuse!

Just a question here? Do you blow air out your nose while doing the turn? If you don't then go ahead and start. When blowing air out your nose when you go upside down will put that reverse pressure out your ears. At least this is what I have always done and it seems to help. Don't blow all of it out just enough that gets you through the flip portion. See if that helps.

Yes, I blow air out when doing the turn. I think I just have ear canals shaped to take in water. Even without flip turns I sometimes have problems with waterlogged ears - just not as often

Life's a lot easier if you just let water get in your ears.
