Pre-race routine:

Up at 5:20am. Bacon, egg & cheese on an English muffin. Swim Clinic from 7am - noon. This involved about 1200yds of swimming and an hour of yoga. During the swim clinic, snacked on string cheese, pretzels, banana, orange juice & coffee. About 2 hours before the race, ate an English muffin with Nutela, and a fruit cup. Sipped on water during the morning.
Event warmup:

Jogged to the bathroom and back :-)

Comments:

Wore tights, a tech tee, lightweight jacket, hat and gloves. Still felt kind of cold. It was really windy. Felt sluggish, heavy and tired for the entire run. Walked some of the hills. Just never felt mentally into this race.

Did spend almost the entire race running with a great guy named Andy. I passed him early on (he was on his third lap!!) and he caught up with me at the first aid station. We ran together until the last 4 miles when he let it rip and left me in the dust!
What would you do differently?:

Not register for a swim clinic on the same day as my race :-(
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing better than getting dry clothes on!! Had some snacks and food, visited with some of the other runners, and then drove the hour back home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The busy morning, and the fact I haven't really run much at all since my 30 mi. race two weeks ago.

Event comments:

This was a very small race and only in its second year. I'm sure there will be continual improvements every year. The course was beautiful! Oh, Hubby ran too and finished in 1:58. He had a really good run. Another friend finished the 39.3 miles in 1st place overall for the men. Another member of my running club finished the marathon distance in 1st place. A good showing for the club!

Course: First 6 mile loop was on the hiking trails. There were a couple challenging hills in the first couple of miles: Vargo was long, but not super steep. Steamboat was shorter and much steeper. The trail was difficult to follow at times. The markings were confusing and at times pointed in two different directions!! Ugh. Frustrating. The second part was 7 miles on the mountain bike trails. This was much more technical, mostly single track, a lot of switchbacks, and some short rolling hills. Didn't have any trouble following the course on this part. It had rained earlier in the morning, so the course was damp and a little muddy here and there. No problems because of the mud. My new Cascadia 7's gave me plenty of traction.

Nice job Jayne.  Sounds like you were way too busy leading up to the start of the race.  Take a little time for yourself and then come back kicking!

Well done Jayne! Make sure you're not racing too much, I'd be inclined to concentrate on easy fun trail running with no time goal for a while, maybe thats just me?

Great job.  You are turning into a running machine and collecting some nice hardware along the way.  Keep up the good work.
