CRYSTAL RIVER, Florida
United States
94F / 34C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 37m 55s
Overall Rank = 111/135
Age Group = Athena
Age Group Rank = 1/2
Pre-race routine:

Woke up 2 hours late, freaked out, apologized to Jeff for being an idiot!!
Event warmup:

Driving like a madwoman to make up the hour I was late.
Swim
  • 10m 5s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

Got kicked in the belly by a big ol guy doing the breast stroke, then the same freaking guy nailed me on the head flipping to the backstroke when I tried to go around him. I passed people on the swim!! WOO FREAKING HOO! I've NEVER EVER EVER passed anyone in the water before!!

I took the swim easy because I typically have trouble getting into a groove in the water, so I purposefully took it really easy.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder.
Transition 1
  • 01m 57s
Comments:

Felt good.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 50m 2s
  • 15 miles
  • 17.99 mile/hr
Comments:

I was breathing REALLY hard the first 5 miles. I wanted to get all of my gatorade on board and 6 clif shot bloks during the bike. At mile 6 or so I puked up the Power Bar. I felt much better after that!! Dry heaved a few times more, but didn't lose anything.

I pushed HARD on the bike. I haven't ridden the bike since St. Anthony's, so my lack of bike training really showed up. I had to work WAY TOO hard for this slow speed! I was proud that I pushed as hard as I did, but disappointed at the speed.
What would you do differently?:

Actually train!!
Transition 2
  • 02m 47s
Comments:

Got to my rack and someone had racked their bike AND their stuff on my towel. It really pissed me off, so I kicked their helmet across the parking lot. I know...really mature, but I was mad!!

Then...I couldn't get my freaking socks on. I have never seen socks so hard to get on before EVER. I almost peeled them back off and went without, but I was afraid of blisters. Wore my Nike Free and couldn't get the right heel in. UGH!
What would you do differently?:

Take different socks?
Run
  • 33m 1s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 39s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt awesome leaving T2. Ran about 1/4 mile, then walked just a bit because my HR was sky high. Told myself I was going to average no less than 10 min miles, but I got into my run/walk pattern and just couldn't get my ass in gear. I'm REALLY disappointed with my run. I had NO cramps, NO stomach issues, I felt as good as I have EVER felt, but I didn't push thru the pain.

They ran out of Gatorade on the run course on the way out. I got a cup of hot water with maybe 1 sip in it. On the way back they had NO water. I thought I was gonna explode I was so hot!!
What would you do differently?:

SUCK IT UP BUTTERCUP AND PUSH THRU PAIN!!
Post race
Warm down:

Got some water, gatorade and watermelon. Walked around looking for Jeff. Went and stood underneath the shower to cool off.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training, and inability to push myself.

Event comments:

I love this race. It's small, friendly, and I haven't raced it EVER that I haven't won hardware!! It's got my vote for best race in Florida!! The hardware this year is gold, silver and bronze too!! WAY COOL!! Gold rocks!! :)

I'm jealous. I never get any hardware. Rocking time, and of course, no WendiReport would be complete without some mention of puking.

Lemme get this straight..you had a Powerbar, 6 Clif Shot blocks, and Gatorade in a sprint? I'd be puking too!

Congratulations, Gold Medal Winnah!

Did you get style points for the helmet boot?  Gorge points for the amount of stuff you took down?  Didja get a t-shirt?!

Congratulations on the *gold*.  At least you avoided the golden speeding ticket.

You rock lady!!!! man oversleeping by that much would have stressed me out...

thank goodness you didn't get stopped by a cop but if I know you like me you would have gotten your way out of that ticket

you did great and it is humbling for you to do that well when you didn't even train as much as you wanted!!

OMG.  You punted a helmet.  I'll bet it felt good too.  It wouldn't be a Wendi race without a Wendi.  Glad you finished and with a little bit of bling to go with it.
