Last of the Mohicans is getting a lot of comments.  I have never seen that movie.

Is it a kid friendly movie?

Hello PPV.

I think it's available for streaming netflix too.  I've never seen it and will watch this weekend.

The Jerico Mile is one of my favorite movies!  Lots of great quotes in that one also.

Marathon Man was the first one I thought of for this.

But....like others have said, original Rocky is the best.  I still find it inspirational almost 30 years later.

A couple others that haven't been mentioned:

The training run in Stripes - cant remember which guy went right into the log, but that had to hurt.

Richard Gere's obstacle course run in Officer and a Gentleman.  Not exactly a Tri-type run, but maybe more relevent to all the "tough mudders" out there.

I remember going to see Personal Best to see a friend's daughter who was a double for the running sequences.  At the time, the daughter was running track at the Div 1 level.  The movie itself was controversial at the time (1982 or so).  It was a bit eye opening for me and made me think.

The running was secondary to the main themes but he movie really captured the effort and emotion of running all out.  The photography was excellent.  It was memorable to me for that.

Speaking of running and movies...

How come Jason Voorhees and Micheal Meyers can always keep up with runners even when they are at a leisurley pace?  The base must be fantastic - they never seem to get tired.

Ground Rules:

1. Not a chase scene like cops and robbers stuff.

2. Not the scene from Meaning of Life when the guy is sentenced to death for gratuitous nudity in a movie.

3. Alien/monster movies okay.

OK I'll go first-

Meatballs- When Rudy wins the cross country race.  I can just feel the heat in that scene.  It's also really quiet like running alone in the woods is.

Long Distance Runner (I think that's the title)  Michael Redgrave running for the reform school and whipping up on the prep school, and then stopping short of the finish line.  You can just see they level of exhaustion in him while he runs.  His form was a nightmare though.

Watcha got?

Of all the movies mentioned (I got to page 3) for some reason the Meatballs mention rang the most true.  I haven't seen that movie in probably 20-25 years, and I remember that vividly.  It struck my as a kid (running in the woods) as amazing.  And doing it in real life if is just as good (in colorado).  I need to do more trail running.

Yes, I had a vague recollection fo the running scene in Galipoli.  So vague I thought I was making it up in my head.

I have seen that movie only once, and that was maybe over thirty years ago in the theater.

Yep, that scene always get me....coincidentally, I was in Scotland 4 days ago and took a photo of the beach where that scene was shot.  This is taken from near the 18th green of the Old Course at St. Andrews looking back at the beach.
