Me thinks the white all around would be a bit revealing, so he added some color to it

That's what I don't get. Why not just wear something....... not white? The first 10 times I looked at this suit I thought it was pubic hair showing through.

And I guess the extra drag of 2 suits didn't matter? So confused on that one.

I'm sure it is a liner to the shorts... they all have them.

Most of Arena's PowerSkin suits have liners (I don't know about the TYR and Speedo lines. In any case though, swimmers can wear ONLY approved brands and models of suits.) The tech fabric actually has carbon fibre in it and it's better performing in terms of compression, stretch, and hydrophobicity at a very specific weave and thickness ... which makes it see-through, even the black ones. So the suits have liners (similar material) in an old-style Speedo-shape in both the men's and women's suits.

peby - 2012-08-03 2:23 PM I'm disappointed...  came here expecting photos. Frown

Be careful what you ask for, seeing Lisa's pic below might require me to grab a chlorine tablet from the pool and scrub my eyes for a while.

I don't know how the female swimmers aren't popping out of the tops of their swim suits.  I don't think anyone with a b-cup or larger could wear one.

You should check out women's water polo.

I don't understand why some people end up in shorts that ride up their butt. Why not find some shorts that fit?

Whats up with this guy's get-up?

Am I the only one who keeps seeing a different picture every time I look at this thread?  Seriously, I know it was originally three American swimmers, but then it was a very attractive woman in a sexy, low-cut black and white dress standing on a street.  And now it's a man and woman dressed in black leather holding their hands up in the air in front of fire.  I think I'm losing it.

The rule change had nothing to do with the weather in London.  Boycott beach volleyball?

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-400_162-57405404/new-bikini-rules-for-olympic-beach-volleyball/

I find it ironic that the examples of the fuller uniforms in the picture include Brazil. Brazil isn't exactly high on the list of "culturally expected/religiously mandated modesty," so in that particular shot, I have to assume there was a choice made based on temperature/weather.

The photo was probably chosen as a way to illustrate the different suits in one frame. I still doubt you'll see many podiums from teams where the less revealing uniform is mandated. I don't think of those places as beach volleyball powerhouses. But what do I know, I never would have picked Latvia as a contender either.

I'm guessing it's probably because she couldn't pull off wearing them and therefore, they're too small for anyone to wear?

agree

Ooof....I'm so glad I've gotten into triathlon. I can't believe the getups some of the women distance runners are expected to wear. Call me a conservative fuddy duddy, but I don't think scrawny distance runners look that great in a jogbra and tiny briefs, nor is the the most comfortable thing to run in. If it was, the guys would be wearing them. I went to a college whose uniform featured YELLOW briefs. At that time we had a choice of those or regular shorts; the former were strongly encouraged but no way! Honestly can't think of anyone of anyone that those briefs flattered. Give me my trisuit any day.

That's exactly what the first picture on this page is.

God bless them.

Someone once said to me "imagine those are your daughters in those uniforms" speaking of the ladies beach volleyball, which by the way I am a huge fan of.

My response?  "If I looked at every woman as if they were my daughters.....then I would never have had my daughters."

There's also (actually) a question of practicality too. At least for high jumpers and pole vaulters. You wouldn't want your shorts catching the bar and costing you a metal.
