Total Time = 1h 37m 58s
Overall Rank = 417/1200
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 63/112
Pre-race routine:

Got up early, had a muffin and headed up to Boulder. Tried to hydrate on the way up. Once there, ran into Matt and Jen. Set up my transition area and found Julia, Mark and Stacy. Just kind of hung out and relaxed
Event warmup:

Jogged a little bit, then swam in the swim are to get used to the water.
Swim
  • 17m 20s
  • 750 yards
  • 02m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim went about as expected. I had a little problem with all the comotion at the start, but wasn't too bad for my first OWS mass start with so many people. There was a heavy smell of fuel about 2/3 into the course, and the water was very murky.
What would you do differently?:

Train more in my wet suit. Maybe get a sleeveless.
Transition 1
  • 02m 37s
Comments:

Could have been faster, but I took my time to catch breath and make sure I didn't forget anything.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. This is what I wanted to do. Collect myself so I could have a good bike.
Bike
  • 49m 13s
  • 17 miles
  • 20.72 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike went well. I could have been a little faster off the bat, but once I found my groove I was pleased. I should have pushed a little harder and tried to get closer to 21-22 mph.
What would you do differently?:

Work harder on the first 7 miles of climbing. Other than that, it was a good ride, I worked hard and passed a whole lot of people.

There were some incredibly strong people out there. I was passed most often when I was going 26+ MPH.
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

Good smooth transition. My butt hurt coming out of transition. Rode Hard!!!.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 27m 29s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt o.k. I still haven't found my speed this year. I was comfortable. Maybe that is my problem. I also didn't like the rocky course. Didn't agree too much with my feet.

Overall I am very happy with my run since I though I had worked too hard on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Maybe push a little harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Got some water, and some bananas and just walked around. Sat down with my wife and in-laws and then packed up the bike and transition area.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Could train more. I'm happy with my race. For my first OW Tri I though I did well so I am not worried about going faster. It was a blast and that is what I really needed.

Event comments:

This was an amazingly well run race. I liked the course and I liked how things were run. I will definitely do this again next year and maybe try for the Olympic (Boulder Peak). It was nice to see fellow BTrs. They did great.

Can't believe I couldn't figure out who your wife was Dan.....there were an amazing number of pregnant women there today!  ARGH.

Hopefully Macdaddy and I will meet you one of these days.

Anyway, GREAT race!  way to go!

Nice race   Looks like you did pretty darn well on that swim!  saw you too late on the run to yell any encouraging words - I looked up and thought - hmm that was DAN and by the time it registered in my brain (I was thinking a little slow by then...) it was too late and you were gone!  You looked good though

Great race! Believe it or not we had the same exact run time, I had you by 3 seconds on the bike but you were faster by something like a minute on the swim so great job for your 1st OWS.

Nice race Dan! Seemed like you were a little timid a couple weeks earlier with some of the OWS starts, but it looks like you did well. And I'd have to say that in addition to the heavy smell of boat fuel, there's typically a heavy TASTE of boat fuel in the Boulder Res. All part of the fun.

Nice work and a very solid race.  That was a huge wave start, and very choppy swim, so nice work on the OWS.

Good race!  You and Drew and I were all about the same time.  Too bad we were all in different wave!  Hope to see you next time!
