Today I did the longest bike ride of my life. I know for many of you 60+ miles is an easy ride, but I am very pleased with my accomplishment. Last night I had lots of 2nd thoughts about whether or not I could even make the distance since my longest ride ever was 30 miles. I got to the ride site a bit later than expected, I signed in, got a ride sheet that looked like a lot of gibberish to me , they pointed me to a map on the back wall and told me to have a nice ride. Figuring I came there to ride, I got my bike out and got myself together, still having seroius doubts about my ability to do this ride. I managed to start with a guy who didn't have a lot of recent riding experience and was going my distance and we hooked up with another 2 guys who seemed to know what they were doing (mostly evidenced by their bike gear and the fact that one of them had the ride route attached to his handle bars) in the 2nd or 3rd mile of the ride. At the first rest stop we introduced ourselves and decided to stay together for the whole ride. Needless to say I had a great time, the route was indeed well marked, and I was able to hold my own riding with my new friends. I had a great day and can't wait to go out for another long ride. I might actually start to like biking.

Great job Sue!!!  I did my first metric century two weeks ago.  My friend told me today after the group swim "once you do a metric century, 50 miles is no big deal."  He's right, once you wrap your head around longer distances, they just don't seem that "long" anymore

And riding with people is so much better than riding alone

Awesome, I'm proud of you!

Cool Stuff there Sue!

<<I might actually start to like biking>> You are starting to sound like me....oh, I'm the one that loves her bike.

Riding with other BTers is also great fun. Post on your State's training group list and see if you can gather a group together. We do that here in MA and in CT and have a super time and meet some great folks along the way. I would encourage everyone to do that...great way to go for a long ride and have lots of fun.

Way to be brave do something new while pushing doubts aside. You will be ready for your 1/2 IM this year!

Congrats.  It wasn't so scary after all.  It's even better when you find people to ride with.

Congrats on the distance ... road races cycling events (who races these things?) are awesome.  Each one I have done, I have managed to hook up with a great group of riders -- which is pretty easy due to the gregarious nature of the sport.

It is kind of cool being able to work as a team and function as a unit with a group of people you have just met  - taking your turn to lead + pull at the front, peel off when you fall off pace to the back to draft, hand signals, etc. (It is the drafting here that I wistfully think about when doing a longer distance tri!)

Now that you have burst the 64 mi mental bubble, you are well on your way!

Awesome Job Sue!!  Where did you ride?

It's always good when you run into people your speed and work together.  Instant friendship for the ride.
