Subject: How far have you traveled without using a motor ?

I remember working in a bike shop years ago, and this kid was graduating from high school.  His big plan was to ride his bike to Mexico.  We got to talking about how far he could get without using any type of motor (Sail-boat, Bicycles, Walking etc..)/...

How far have you gone in one shot ??

Me, not that much..  about 270 miles by bicycle one weekend .....

140.6 in one shot.  I've done a few bike tours over the years.  I think the longest was around 550 miles in 6-days.

That was my thought too.  Although I can't remember what my longest distance sailing was.

Biked unsupported with a buddy from St. Louis to Astoria Oregon loosely following the Adventure Cycling Lewis and Clarke route. I don't remember for sure but it was somewhere in the 2700-3000 miles range.

Hands down the best time of my life.

Back in the very early '90s, I was in a Venture Troop that centered around cycling.  We did a trip from Indianapolis to Clifton Gorge in Ohio.  Fun times.

When I lived in Hawaii as a geographic bachelor, I didn't have a car with me... I managed to put a bit over 3000 miles on my 2005 Specialized Transition Multisport.  I did catch rides with some friends every now and then, and rode TheBus some times (especially the times I went downtown and had a bit much to drink).

Some of you are making me wish that I could one day take a very long vacation to jump on my bike and do something crazy... like ride the entire Appalachian Trail.  A cross country trek sounds truly awesome, as well.   Unsupported would be icing on the cake.

about 500 miles, leaving Los Angeles by sail boat headed out to sea and then down to San Diego, back out to sea and back to LA.  Two weeks without seeing land, pretty scarey in a 32 foot sail boat.

118 miles by bicycle, my first century.

I trekked the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal, in about two weeks plus some rest/sightseeing days. Can't remember how far but it's a goodly distance--about 200 km. No roads the entire way! Bike-wise, maybe 300 miles--have ridden across small countries like Austria and Hungary, and sizable chunks of Germany and Holland, on self-guided tours. This was with Mom and we averaged about 40-50 miles a day. Actually one of the hardest things I've done, endurance-wise, was to hike 50 km in one day, in the mountains. Did it twice, once in the Himalayas and once in Oregon, and I think it was harder than a marathon or HIM. My dream is to do the Snowman Trek in Bhutan, which is supposed to be the world's hardest trek. This is above Ironman on my bucket list!
