Pre-race routine:

Bathroom, walked around spoke to race management about an event I had done last year that was not offered this year....I hope they bring it back in 2014...
Event warmup:

STRETCH. A bit of jogging around...and hopping up and down to keep warm.
Run
  • 2h 08m 8s
  • 10 miles
  • 12m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

I had a really good time--I kept going at a fairly decent (but slow) trot, and only walked the steepest of hills (there were 2), and then when I would get my electrolytes at the aid stations (I haven't quite mastered the drinking while running trick). I am particularly proud of the fact that I managed to not just RUN the last 400 meters through the finish, but I ran STRONG through it. I had a bit of hip pain and a nasty blister on the left achilles tendon, but overall, the run was smooth! So kind of 2 firsts today--first #1--longest full on run EVER. First #2--first long run that did not leave me in decent pain afterwords, and was smooth.
What would you do differently?:

Dress a little bit cooler--I wore a couple lower layers and a couple upper layers--I dressed for the cold drive there, not the race itself...but I wasn't overheated, I just noticed I was warmer than I wanted to be--still comfy.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked a bit, hit the bathroom again.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I should have done more running on the trails--the Folsom trails are one of my usual training areas...

Event comments:

I loved this race--it was pretty, it wasn't too easy or too hard, and it was just overall enjoyable! I will definitely do it again next year.

Overall: 0/
Performance: Good
Course: Trail---sand, dirt, a bit of pavement, tree roots, and granite boulders. Okay, the boulders were at the side of the trail at points, and me being the raging OCR freak that I am, I was running up them/jumping off them, etc...What?! that's not normal? meh. It made this more fun. Don't get me wrong it was quite pretty and the temps were perfect...but...just a run. Anyway, the majority of the course was around and on the mountain bike trails that run around Granite Beach at Folsom Lake. Not too terribly difficult, a few steep hills, but overall, a surmountable challenge.

Great job. A new distance and feeling great at the end. A double win! I love that you jumped on/off the boulders.

Surmountable challenges are good, especially if you're running up big hills!

Good weather, good race, and CONGRATS ON THE PR!!!! (Both of them. Especially the finishing and not being in major pain after).

LOL, I love to do crazy stuff with random stuff on the side of the course too--spectators, benches, etc. Heh.

Super job, Kate!  Congrats on RUNNING a new distance and doing it issue free, save the blister and a little hip pain.  Smiled to read you had fun while you were out there, jumping off boulders and the like.  IMO, why do something if you can't have fun and enjoy doing it?!

Sounds like you learned a lot and that is most important. Also, you hadn't run this distance before, right? That means a guarantee PR! Smile

Nice work Kate!  I can barely run 3 miles on trails without killing myself, let alone hit a new distance and PR.  Good for you!!!
