Yeah, it would be interesting to know why he hates ToC riders, but says he supports local riders.  Is his problem just the size of the event?

Should be cool to watch some of the race though, coffee or no coffee.

yea, I think there are a lot of business owners, and residents, that would rather have Hells Angels ride through town that a bunch of middle aged cyclists wearing spandex.

I've done a few bike tours over the years...in many ways I can see the frustration.

Our small town has done overnights of RAGBRAI, and many people get mad because things are shut down for the bike "circus" as some like to call it.  They just don't know how much money is brought into the community for these types of events.  The businesses here want them to come to town and many stayed open later than normal to try and help people out.  I know it is not the same thing as ToC coming to town, but similar in the money that could be spent. 

That coffee shop owner really doesn't know what he is missing out on for possible good business and is now going to get a bad name.

Because I am in the habit of posting links this week, BC business says bikes are good.

Man, so many of those reviews are first-time reviewers with no history.  Sounds like a few people creating multiple accounts.  A few bucks from the owner to Yelp will clear that up....

Seems silly to completely bash cyclists then in small print try to make all right by saying he likes local bikers.  Um, the local bike crowd probably LOVE the fact the ToC is going through and you just alienated all of them.

Like the the OP (or someone said), I would probably stop going there as a cyclist.

He's shutting down on his own accord.

So, he has a beef with the organizer of an event that will deliver hundreds, if not thousands, of people to his doorstep, and he shows his displeasure with the man by saying "no, I will not make any money that day!".  Nothing like a good ol' fashioned resentment to remove all sense ;-)

It's a shame that gentleman and his employees weren't there for that EPIC finish.  Was anyone there?  Must have been awesome.

I was about 30 feet from the finish.  Unreal to watch.  I'm a HUGE Jens fan and was screaming "Shut up legs!"

It was so cool to see these guys tear up the roads where I ride and finish on the beach where I grew up.  I wish it was a sunny day, but it was not too bad.  Epic finish to say he least.

Wow, this is a great example of how NOT to market your business.  lol

If he has a beef, then just close the business for the day.  If you go on a polarizing rant like this, then all you're doing is alienating a significant portion of your customer base.  /facepalm
