Total Time = 2h 38m 31s
Overall Rank = 326/1422
Age Group = f30-34
Age Group Rank = 16/144
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:30 grabbed my PBJ and coffee and was late meeting Adam & Ryan in the parking lot. They were rightfully mad - SORRY GUYS!! (I was about 10 min late...) Got to the race, set up transition and starting getting into race mindset.
Event warmup:

jogged about 1.5 miles with Stacey. Did a pickup and some high knees and other drills just to get things movin. Did a lap out to the pier and back in the water to get the cobwebs out. I felt sluggish warming up in the water and the water was warm!
Swim
  • 25m 20s
  • 1500 yards
  • 01m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

I started out very strong, drafting off whoever was in 1st in our wave. I kinda lost it around the bouy and then really lost it when we caught the division in front of us. I just couldn't get a clean line through and I started seeing red caps catch me. It was frustrating that I couldn't find a good line, but the good news is that I KNOW I can swim faster than that so I can only continue to improve!
What would you do differently?:

Hold the draft longer and try to stay focused through the mid section.
Transition 1
  • 01m 31s
Comments:

First running mount of my career and it went pretty smoothly. My T still could have been faster if I had been just a tiny bit more aware of my surroundings and not thinking so much. It will eventually become second nature...
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 1h 20m 35s
  • 26.1 miles
  • 19.43 mile/hr
Comments:

My legs were stiff heading up Old Stage and I kinda hurt, but in hind sight, my pace and cadence were good and not many people were passing me on the hill. I was just trying to remind myself that that was the TOP with a long fast descent followed by a long fast flat before hitting ANY other hills so once I topped it, I was GOLDEN. I was SO close to 20 mph it hurt, but I hit my goal of 19 so I feel pretty good with it!
What would you do differently?:

make my legs not feel like rocks starting the climb (not sure how, but worth a shot...)
Transition 2
  • 00m 42s
Comments:

My helmet was actually off before I got to the rack - I was thinking this time :) the rack was empty, which made me happy!! My sneaks could have been positioned better, but hey, I can't complain, I had the 3rd fastest T2 in my AG I think (faster than the winner AND the 3rd place person)
What would you do differently?:

Nada!
Run
  • 50m 20s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt hot, and couldn't keep my HR/ breathing under control. Every time I tried to push my pace under 8 min/mi I exploded! I don't know what it was, but I think I didn't hydrate and consume enough on the bike, and my tummy didn't want anything during the run, so I just tried to sip a little water. I KNOW I can knock minutes off this run - again no place to go but up!
What would you do differently?:

mentally challenge myself a little better and drink more on the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

little jog and food and beer with lots of BTers!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

mental games on the run and lack of hydration. Also mentally in the water. Lack of swim training.

Event comments:

It was SOOOOO great to see everyone out there today and I can't say how wonderful it is to have so much support on the course. Thanks to everyone for making this a great day :)

Great race, you were really flying out there. Scary to think you were slowed down on the swim.

I figured you were having a good day when I got on my bike and you were just ahead of me. Glad to see it held up through the other two events. You looked pretty good at mile 1 of the run too. Keep it up and you'll be smokin it next year (not that you aren't already)!
