So, I needed a massage the day after SAVAGEMAN!

They were 30 minutes late to start my massage. Okay. So they offer me a free upgrade to a deep muscle therapy massage with Hot Towels and warming and cooling gels. Starts out fine, but then the therapist COATS my back and legs with BIOFREEZE.

I spent the remaining 25 minutes shivering, asked her to turn up the table and cover me with warm towels. Then I ran out of the room and into my car, turned the car seat on and the heat on full blast for 20 minutes.

It was unbelievable!

I would not be able to forgive myself if I passed on the opportunity to be first to say...

It sounds like this massage lacked a happy ending.

Wow, no love on this thread - you're just getting a lot of abuse over this, huh?

I've actually had this exact same thing happen during a massage - she covered me in tiger balm (basically the same stuff) and I spent the whole massage shivering. It was the most miserable experience ever. WTF?

Yikes, Biofreeze is meant to be applied to SMALL areas.  Same with Tiger Balm.  I'll have to google it, but I seem to recall a news story about five years ago about a girl who died from over absorption of Icy Hot.  She had applied it all over her body not realizing there was a toxic dose.

I would find a new masseuse.  They should be helping you with massage technique, not relying so much on something like Biofreeze.  I mean, if that was the solution, you could apply at home for free!

That's funny.  Well, I'm sure it wasn't at the time.

Last time I signed up for a massage at a nice health club I once belonged to was probably a decade ago.  I made an appointment and showed up early.  The receptionist told me to just knock on the door and go in when it was time for my massage.  Entry was from the locker room, and the massage rooms sat between men's and women's locker rooms.  So after relaxing and stretching in the spa until my appt. time, I went and knocked on the door.  No answer.  I gave it a few more minutes and knocked again, still no answer.  I open the door, dark room, nobody in there.  Okay, what to do next since I'm just standing there wrapped in my towel?  I hung out for a few more minutes and was about to bail on it when ... the door swings open from the other side.  Here is the massage lady, but more like a tasmanian devil.  "What are you doing in here?" she says with this accusatory tone.  "YOU SHOULDN'T BE IN HERE !!!" insinuating I was some sort of peeping tom or worse.  I gave her a funny look, and told her I had an appointment, checked in up front, and she was late.

I ended up getting my massage, but that was enough to convince me not to fork over money for that again.  At least she didn't coat me with tiger balm, though.

From the article: "The initial autopsy was inconclusive..." Couldn't they tell from that minty smell? Very sad though, she must have been buying that stuff in bulk.

I'm going to laugh, but only because I understand:

I was on a motorcycle trip around Morocco and we had stopped just north of Erfoud. An old knee injury was giving me some problems, so I figured the massage treatment offered by the hotel would help. I'm accostomed to deep-tissue "sports massage" that really works out the knots in sore muscles and helps with the lingering effects of some old injuries. I showered-off, and in the process shaved my head as I'd not shaved in a few days.
It wasn't a deep-tissue massage; she had a very light touch, just pushing on the skin a little, doing nothing for sore muscles and tendons. The experience wasn't what I needed for another few days in the saddle. I was trying to figure out why the oil she was using reminded me of chewing gum, until the cinnamon oil touched my freshly-shaved scalp. The entire experience immediately became very uncomfortable.

So yah, I can relate to some extent.

Reminds me of playing baseball in High School when a teammate thought the icyhot stick was deodorant and put it on his armpits. Man was that hilarious/sad to watch.

I've rested them for 6 weeks, twice. I've had Active Release Therapy, massages, I'm doing Trigger Point, and stretching. Yet, I'm still having issues and can't get above 3 miles.

They are comfortable, but on longer runs the ball of my foot starts to heat up. I actually had to STOP, take off the shoe, massage my foot. This would help for a while, but the pain usually returned.
