Gary here. Was looking at the 2014 1,000 mile challenge, but I like the shorter nature of this one. I'm in. I've been focusing on running and swimming this off season (while shopping for a road bike). Count me in for 100.

Been resting my feet and knees the last couple weeks, so I'm just a little behind the 8-ball. Sunday 5k race with the kid. Monday starting a new 5k-focused run training plan to ramp up for the 2014 triathlon season. Will be doing mostly Sprints and want to really rock the run. Weekly plan: I've got a short run, 2 mediums, and a long run per week. Plus some 5k pace work, hill repeats, and running drills thrown into the mix. Don't think 100 will be a problem, even though I've never quite hit that mark before.

Should be fun.

Ran 5 miles this AM. The temps are brutal here still. Was 4 degrees with -12 windchill so can't last much longer than 40 minutes out there! Plan to run 8-10 on Saturday morning! Lets hit 100!

I had a great start to the new year! Ran 8 miles through the arboretum with my cousin. I was *slightly* "under the weather" from ringing in the new year but got out there anyway and felt SO MUCH better after the run. It's funny how running can do that. When you somehow have more energy after a run than when you started. I like to call these my paradox runs. And honestly, most of them are.

Today:

6.2 miles AM, easy

3.8 miles midday, with some hard running in the middle to get me ready to incorporate some qualify back into my training

Ok, everyone ready for a laugh? I'm the first person out of the challenge. I went out tonight and that bleeping PF reared it's ugly head. I struggled with this last year and really thought I had it kicked in April. Oh well, this is definitely an answer and shows that I'm not cut out for marathon training. {Don't get me wrong, I'm already gone thru the training this time so I'll be at the start line of the mary. I may have to catch the sag wagon but I've worked too hard not to at least start the race.} But I'm going to bow out of the challenge now because if I don't, I know that my pig-headed self would try to get the miles but it's not the smart thing to do. I'll still come back and read about everyone else. Good luck everyone!!!

Tonight was dark, cold, pouring, and very windy.  It was really nasty out so glad I just had a 5 mile recovery run.

Sorry to hear about your issues. PF can be tough to over come. I hope you are up and running, pardon the pun, in no time.

Nooooooo! I am really sorry to hear that.

I've got a teammate who has PF but she "manages it" and continues to train. I don't know much about it. Is that an option for you?

Got 5.8 in this am then did a strength session and another mile with a bunch of drills. Soooo, somewhere in the 8sh range.

Tomorrow will be my first day back, practicing with the team. Yikes!

5 mile rolling trail run.  Attack the hills, the rest easy.  Focus on building strength.

Short trainer session after run then beer.

Pam , so sorry to hear of your issue. I wish you a speedy return to whatever you want to do!

4 miles yesterday and 6 today all at the gym.. Broke it up today, 2 on 'track' upstairs, 2 on treadmill then the last 2 upstairs. I still don't like the treadmill! Sometimes the treadmill feels much harder to me. Not sure why that is.

A short 2 miles today...only. I weight lifted beforehand, but tomorrow...planning for a longer run...trying for 6 miles. It's been a while since I've pushed for longer runs...since I've started lifting, but this challenge will help me. Good running, all! And it's only day 3 of the new year.

My first challenge :-)

Planing on 90 km for the month

Tuesdays 5km tempo
Thurdays 5km tempo
Sundays 10km nice and slow.

Already done 10km on 1st and another 5km this afternoon.

I being conservative as this is going to be my first season of triathlon and I'm working on swiming 3/week plus getting on the bike trainer 3/week as well.

Cheers,

Claude

The treadmill is way harder for me.  I only use one when I'm out of town and have to use hotel equipment.  Last month, I misstepped and put a foot off the tread and just about killed myself.  Only other person in the room was a little old lady on a rowing machine and she asked if I was ok but I think she was trying not to laugh.

Alright, so I have to modify my goal. Been dealing with some mild Achilles pain and I'm just trying to take it easy on it a little bit. So, without much detail, I'm planning on:

Week 1: 20 miles
Week 2: 25 miles
Week 3: 28 miles
Week 4: 30 miles
Remaining days: 12 miles

Total: 115 miles

I reserve the right to back that way down if the Achilles gets any worse!

Yes, for PF I found it's not a death sentence - thankfully. I can manage it usually but I wanted to drop out the challenge because I know that sometimes I push further for a challenge and do less "management" and smart decision making. Funny thing tho, decided to still toe the start line on my first trail HM this morn and was going to pull out when PF bothered me. I finished and really the feet didn't bother me; could have been the trails or could have been the shoes that helped today. I'll still get rid of the shoes from Thursday night, still do the PF exercises, and still get the massage with the electrode shocking thing (which helps.) Now I've got to recover from the falls today. I'm a klutz hence I usually never do trail runs. I should have stuck around to see if they give an award for the person that falls the most. I think I might win that award. I had 3 falls but hubby said he saw one guy fall twice in front of him so that guy may have me beat.

Today, got 5.26 miles in...wanted 6 miles, but was happy to get over 5 miles in. I only have hmmm....nearly 89 miles to go for the month. lol That equates to a little over 3 miles daily from now 'til the end of the month to = 100 miles. Hmmm....can I do it?

Happy Saturday, everyone!

We need to be cautious with the 'injury' bug out there, and take care of that with appropriate rest
and any other needed treatment.

Totals for wk 1 are due today. I will make a summary tomorrow afternoon.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I had a nice start to the challenge, even though I'm in FL and on vacation. Weather has been
chilly, but who can't run in 50 degree weather when the last outside run was in the teens with
snow on the ground??

Got a run in every day and ran a total of 16 miles for Jan1-4.

All easy, with a slight tug at my old calf injury. Probably have done too much with weights/strength
training and I'll back off of that to keep the running goal.

Need to average 3.2+ miles/day for this challenge. Keep to your schedules everyone. We've had a good
start.

30 miles run today and that give me 71.97 so far for the month of January. I did get in 103.11 for the week this week. Maybe I under estimated my miles this month but I am cutting back some starting this week, I have just under 4 weeks before the 100 miler.

Keep up the great work everyone.
