Overall Rank = 817/1414
Age Group = M3034
Age Group Rank = 129/178
Pre-race routine:

Got up, had a bagel, a banana, Juice, and a coffee. Had all my stuff ready the night before, and bike racked too.
Event warmup:

I ran for about 10 minutes, and did some strides. Got teh HR up and then cooled off and stretched. Got my wetsuit on and swam. I stayed in teh water a good 25 minutes. I watched the first two waves start off from the water. Felt good.
Swim
  • 39m 17s
  • 2310 yards
  • 01m 42s / 100 yards
Comments:

I basically put this in crusie control for the entire swim. I went comfortable and my pace. I passed soem of the stragglers from teh third wave, but for the most part, I just swam a leisurely pace, and concentrated on breathing and nice long strokes. Absolutely did not try hard at all.
What would you do differently?:

Not a damn thing
Transition 1
  • 05m 6s
Comments:

Again, I didn't go super fast. Just got through the T1 and got ready for a long ride.

What would you do differently?:

Not Much....
Bike
  • 2h 44m 40s
  • 56 miles
  • 20.40 mile/hr
Comments:

I split this up into 18 mile increments. The first 18 was done as easy as possible, with slight notches up in pace here and there. The second and third parts were done with a bit more intensity, and I started really dropping some of the people who probably had went a bit too hard too early. I drank ONE perpetuem bottle 6 gels, a banana, and at least 80-90 ounces of water.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 04m 28s
Comments:

Again, I didn't go too fast. I also had to go to the john for about a minute and a half.
What would you do differently?:

Wear depends.
Run
  • 2h 20m 16s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

It was hot and I had a hard time keeping my HR down. It really wore on me and it felt impossible to pick up teh pace. I tried at around mile 7 to star to ratchet it up, it backfired and led to worse times around miles 10-12.
What would you do differently?:

I don't really know. I did great in my pacing on tehe swim and bike, but teh run always gets to me. I felt great through mile 8, but I felt really degraded after that.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and met with other Triple Threat members. Had water, gatorade, and packed my stuff up and went home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat and my run.

Event comments:

I really liked this and will do it again next year.

Hey congrats on your race, great work! ....I just did Vineman 70.3 last week, similar race.....if your logs are accurate, look for the mystery on your run split in your run volume....you had a decent swim, and a strong bike but not much left for the run......my run split was 1:47 but I put in 90-110 miles a month on the run...with my weekly long run at 10-14 miles....also put in a marathon back in March....the longer the race, the more it is about he run....no way around this...sounds like you really enjoyed it and will be back!

Great swim and nice bike too.  It was really hot on the run.  Hardly any shade at all from mile 2 to mile 13.  Tough stuff.  Congrats on finishing.

good race.  Sounds like you had a good plan for the first two legs, the run is funny that way...   I had a hard time the first couple miles during the Lake Stevens 70.3...SUN AND HEAT....Not good.

Wow, great day today!  I did 1/4 of that distance and I'm done in.  I had to laugh at what you call an "easy" pace on both the swim and the ride!

Hey, thanks all, for your comments. I do need some running time, and I do belive that thsi is my last race this year, or at least full on tri. I might do a 5k or 10k or a bike race or mt bike race... we will see.

It was a hot as hell race for the run, and I saw people falling out all over. Not too many people were smiling. I figure if I can smile, I am doing all right. If not, then I just have to pay extra attention and care to  what I am doing and finish.

Good luck with teh rest of all your races!!!

Great job, I can't say I noticed the heat, but I spent about 8 minutes in port a potties "cooling off" and apparently losing to you.

Nice race, man.  Congrats.  That bike time is great, especially considering you said you took it really easy for the first 18 miles.  Wow!
