Pre-race routine:

Got to race site by 7am. Race kit pick up, body marked, chip pick up. Set up T zone. Ate a bagel with PB and drank 1/2 cup of coffee. Hydrated (maybe too much)
Event warmup:

Ran about 4 minutes. Couldn't bike anywhere as there was a half ironman starting before us, and a lot of areas were restricted. Stretching
Swim
  • 16m 42s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 14s / 100 meters
Comments:

Gross water!!! Weeds ++. I don't know the strategy for swimming in crowds, but I couldn't go faster b/c I was stuck in a group.

After rounding the 2nd buoy, another swimmer was really close to it, and I didn't see her. I kind of knocked her under the buoy a bit. Ooooops. No big deal, but I felt bad...I apologized

After this, we swam into the blinding sun, and no one could see a thing. We all followed each other and hoped for the best.
What would you do differently?:

Learn strategies to deal with crowds of swimmers.
Transition 1
  • 02m 39s
Comments:

Run out of the water to T1 was long!! At least 400m. I don't know where this is added into the time.
Then...I can't see my bike...this IS the right rack, I know it....IT WAS KNOCKED OVER!!! arrggh
What would you do differently?:

Don't think any of this was under my control!
Bike
  • 42m 46s
  • 20 kms
  • 28.06 km/hr
Comments:

Felt nauseated for the 1st half...don't know why...couldn't push it at all for fear of chucking...
Second half was much better
What would you do differently?:

Maybe eat earlier or less?
Transition 2

  • 26m 27s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 17s  min/km
Post race
Warm down:

Walked for 5 minutes, stretched, ate, hydrated

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nausea on bike

Event comments:

Subaru always puts on a very well organized event

Congratulations on a great race. Pre-race eating and hydration seems to be a trial and error process with me too!

Good time! Congratulations. You did pretty good on that bike run considering there were so many hills; what are you riding?
