Precipitation
Total Time = 36m 31s
Overall Rank = 1420/2970
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 66/175
Pre-race routine:

Cup of coffee with meds, glass of Bolthouse Mango Protein drink.
Event warmup:

Walked to registration tent to change race from 1.5 mi to 5k (down 4 flights in parking garage, ~1/2 mi to & from); got cold so went back to car to get fleece jacket & wait in the car until closer to start (up 4 flights). Back to meet-up area (down 4 flights), hung out with other team members trying to stay warmish and dry.
Run
  • 36m 31s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 11m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

Went great. We were right at 0:24 @ the 2 mi. mark; about what I expected. Started at the back because we started with walking. When running, passed a lot of people, who then passed us when walking. Overall, clearly moved up in the pack.

Wore tights, LS wicking top, fleece top, rain jacket, another wicking top (SS w/team name), gloves, lightweight cap, midweight SmartWool socks. Felt pretty comfortable; maybe a little damp but not too warm.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around post-race area looking for other team members, did some stretching. Could definitely feel hammies and achilles tightening up in the cold after the race. Ended up walking around more than I would have liked because we were looking for the rest of the group for the post-race pic. Finally gave up.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Dodging around other runners, current pace is probably generally a little slow.

Event comments:

Lots of cold drinks provided, nothing hot. Not surprising given the unpredictability of the weather. Didn't want anything sweet to eat afterwards so just had 1/2 asiago bagel. Team provided breakfast burritos, got L soy chai on the way home.

Good race, although weather was chilly and sometimes rainy. Some wind, but not significant factor. Felt really good to get a 5k under my belt and it was surprisingly easy. Yay!!

Well done Mary. That pace is not too shabby for a walk/run pace. Onwards and upwards.

Congratulations on a race well run. I know this one was a bit of a stretch for you, based on your training, but you were up to it. I think this is a great example of the fact that we can do so much more than we give ourselves credit for. Awesome start to the season for you!
