Oy, I am SO far behind and don't have time to catch up at the moment.  Lots here and RRs to read, plus I still have to finish up my Evergreen RR.  Stoopid work just gets in the way of the important things.

This past weekend and earlier in the week were spectacular.  Got to see TJ and Salty at the PPA and went to a few breweries with them.  Then off to Steamboat Springs to see my former swim buddy, L, and some of the Pro Challenge, plus got in a trail run with L and some soaking and laps at the hot springs pool.  The Pro Challenge finish on Monday was fantastic.  We were 100m from the finish and saw the final sprint.  Phinney's grin was a mile wide at the podium presentation and the beer spraying was pretty hilarious.  Got to see the first climb up Rabbit Ears Pass on Tuesday too.  This Sunday, we'll watch the women's circuit race in Golden and the Denver portion of the men's race.

I feel like my training for my race on the 29th has been pretty lackluster. I know I can do the distances, but it's not going to be anything special.  I'm just going to consider it a training race to get ready for the one at the end of September.  The Sept. race is flat and fast (and at a reasonable hour!) so I'm going to focus on doing speed work for the next month.  After the Sept. race, I'll start training for the Zion HM in March.  L is going to do it with me; she just signed up yesterday and had the requisite "Oh shyte, what have I done?" moment.  Never had one of those myself. :D  I'm excited to get back to training with her even though we live 3 hours apart.

Okay, back to the salt mines.  Have a good weekend, everybody and GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO RACERS!!!

Originally posted by MadMathemagician Hi, everyone. It has been a while. I have mainly been swimming and biking. The doctor said I could start using the treadmill and walking. No running. I am working on repairing my gait. I am using vibrams as this seems to be helping restore strength in my feet. Along with normal swim training i have continue training for freediving. I am having a blast with it I achieved level one last week. That is a dive to 60 feet. Wasn't too hard. My static apnea (breath holding) time is up to 3 minutes. It freaks out some of the lifeguard at pool when I work on breath holding at the pool. Will continue with breathing exercises and hope to get to level two in a month or so. Got a couple of century rides coming up in a month. Life is good. Hope all is going well for everyone here.

Freediving training/certification - how interesting!  3 minutes?!  Wow!  What do you plan on doing with this training?

Continue the good work on restrengthening your legs.

It was fun to watch Phinney come back so strongly from that crash. BMC is having a great USAPC.

Glad you had so much fun. Sounds like you and L are all set! As for your race this month, I like the idea of using it as a supported training day. Go out and have fun.

I found a team for Ragnar Angel Fire that needed a runner so I'll be doing that next weekend

I do it because it is fun.   It is basically a Zen sport.   The  training quells my demons.   The breathing exercises have helped to restore my blood pressure to pre-PTSD levels.  117/78 is my average, now.     Also it is a good way to hunt.   I have spearfished in the past and am taking it up again.  One breath, one dive, one shot, and one fish.    That is if all goes right.    I used to do it using scuba equipment.    Freediving is more sporting for the fish.  And a lot of dive places around the world are moving to restrict spearfishing to freediving status only.

Very Zen, it is.

The laying off of impact training is a good time for figuring out some swim issues. I've been feeling smoother and more confident with my stroke, but still a slow turnover. What I've noticed this week is that I really struggle to get my hips rotated during my non-breath stroke (right arm reaching). When I work to get them turned, I feel like I'm rolling too far over...like over over  Tried to get video today, but can't do alone very well. I'll put GoPro on bottom of pool next time.

Without a video yet, any drills/videos/tips to throw at me for next week? Though I know enough to stop and make basic adjustments, I don't have the fix-it knowledge like some of you. Pretty much starting over at this point.

Thanks everyone. Had a great day, super happy with how I paced the bike and was able to run all but the aid stations and a couple hundred metres of pity parties . Windy, but beautiful day.

Way to go, Kirsten!! I'm so proud of you! Hope you're not too tired to enjoy Denmark a little before you come home.

I'm super happy with my race yesterday. It was a fundraiser 5k for my friend's son's school with ~215 people. I PRed and got 1st in the 18+ AG (4th woman OA)!!!!! I think I could get used to this placing business. I just have to keep going to small races and ones with a lot of walkers, start training a little more seriously, orrrrr maybe a little of both. :-)

awesome weekend guys!!

Well back to work today after 11 days off so of course the first thing I'm doing is checking in here..... oh yeah, and registering for IMMT in 2016 :D I must be crazy!

Also I do have a half written race report I need to finish up. I've been having too much fun the last 7 days NOT being on the computer (well not doing much of anything really).

Thanks to everyone for the support over the last 8 months (especially). Now get ready to do it all over again! LOL

Ok, maybe I should check my work email.
